3 Natural Autumn Centerpieces

Want to create beautiful Autumn centerpieces for your home using natural materials? Here are three different ideas you can use. Help me pick the one that will grace my table.

I have to admit that I was really inspired by Sherry's post, Fall Decorating: Outdoor Décor. In the last section on Autumn accessories, she talks about using natural materials to create outdoor decorations. That got me thinking about decorating indoors.

Specifically, I've been thinking about centerpieces, lately. We'll probably host Thanksgiving this year, so I want to make sure that our table looks beautiful. Yes, Thanksgiving is a bit of the ways off, but the thought of the holiday, coupled with the cool crisp Fall snap we have been having, has me ready to get started now. And this way, my centerpiece or centerpieces, can earn their keep by decorating my home in advance.

So, perhaps you can help me decide which one of the three ideas I should pursue.

The first is an informal idea. I could take small pumpkin-like gourds and line the middle of the table with them. Next, I would carve out a bit of the gourd, just enough to make room for tapered candles. I would insert these tapers in alternating colors of red, yellow and a light orange. Or, I could trim the tapers to different lengths and group them (with the gourd holders) in the center.

My second idea is a little less formal, but equally as simple. I can take a square or oval serving dish and fill it with a nice selection of different small gourds and pepper it with other natural materials, such as colorful dried leaves and berries.

My third idea is the most formal of all and involves a little bit more work. I could take a grapevine wreath and a couple of containers of different colored mums. I would snip the mature mum flowers from the plants and then place them in the wreath, creating a full circle of flowers. I could then include sprays of baby's breath or dried berries to fill in any open spots and add some dimension to the centerpiece. A fat candle in a warm Autumn color would complete the centerpiece.
