Decorating for Christmas

Decorating for Christmas can be a chore or a lot of fun depending on your outlook. Pretty much our approach to Christmas decorating is to keep it simple. I’m not a crafty person, so me making Christmas decorations is never going to happen, unless they were dead simple like a couple of Michele’s suggestions. At the recent Christmas ladies night our church held, all I managed to do was provide amusement for the other ladies at our table. That’s okay, I figure you do the things you can and don’t worry about the others. I’m looking forward to putting up … Continue reading

A Christmas Tableaux

With just over a month to Christmas it’s time to start thinking about Christmas decorations. I rarely buy new decorations but jets tend to recycle the same ones in different places or freshened up each year. Usually like Mary Ann I have bowls willed with pinecones as part of my table decorations. This year though I have a brand new Christmas decoration and it will on prominent display. It is a Christmas tableau. Released by Walker Books The First Noel – A Christmas Carousel by Jan Pienkowski is a delightful work of art. While closed it looks like a book, … Continue reading

Continuing Traditions

The day after Thanksgiving is the day our tree goes up. Actually, we have three. I know it sounds like over kill but it’s really not. Going all out for Christmas decorating is one way I continue the traditions Hailey has enjoyed all her life. When I was married my ex husband really didn’t celebrate Christmas so I went overboard to make up for him. Now that I’m divorced, it’s a tradititon. Hailey always says it looks like Christmas exploded in our house, but I know she looks forward to it every year. If I tried to cut back on … Continue reading

How Traditions Start

Christmas Eve in our household often means going to church and singing carols. Christmas Eve is a busy time, as after we come home from carols then there is the usual settling down too wrap gifts for each other and for family before they arrive over Christmas. When we were first married we always vowed we would wrap earlier and not get caught up in last minute preparations but somehow over the years it never happened. After we have wrapped presents for family, to the sound of accompanying Christmas carols playing on the CD player, then Mick usually disappears to … Continue reading

A Simple New Idea

This year we have, thanks to my daughter who is the artistic one in the family, a new idea for our card tree. It’s just a simple change but it makes a lot of difference to the way the card tree looks. Every year the card tree goes up, so yesterday we took a walk and scouted round for some branches that had come off gum trees in recent storms. Eucalypts or gum trees are notorious for snapping apart, which is why I would never have one near the house. Come to think of it, I would never have a … Continue reading

Support Home-Based Business This Holiday Season

As you plan your holiday shopping this year, you may want to see how many of your gifts and other holiday purchases you can buy from home-based workers. You may think that you will only be able to purchase a gift or two from people in your local area, but I would encourage you to expand your search and look around online to see what you can find. While you may not be able to find someone who makes or sells everything that you need right in your community, there are so many home-based workers that sell all kinds of … Continue reading
