A Guide to Winter Beddingby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 25 Feb 2009 12:52 PM
With spring approaching, it is a great time to find some end of season deals on warm winter bedding. If you aren't sure where to begin, take a look at this guide to help you decide. If you live in a cold climate, you might want to consider a down comforter. We have an eco-down one on our bed, and it is one of my favorite things in the house. You can expect to pay anywhere from $200 to $600, depending on the quality. Look for a cover that has a high thread count of at least 300. This will help prevent the feathers from poking through. Pre-washed fill will reduce the risk of allergies. If you tend to wake up sweaty from being too hot at night, you'll want to look into bedding that is made of wool. The wool will whisk away moisture to keep you dry while still keeping you warm. Expect to pay between $200 and $300, and look for a high thread count to prevent poky wool fibers. Choose a washable blanket so you won't spend a fortune on dry cleaning. If you find yourself allergic to everything, including wool and down, then opt for silk bedding. Silk is naturally hypoallergenic. Plus, dust mites don't like it. Expect to pay between $150 and $250, depending on quality. Look for a high thread count (300 or more) in the cover because it will better protect the silk. Dry clean only.
