Home Based Business Opportunity – CAbi

If you are looking for a home based business opportunity and you are thinking about direct sales, you have probably realized that there are direct sales opportunities available for practically every type of product you can imagine. Of course, in order to be successful with your personal foray into the world of direct marketing, you must be sure to choose a company and a product that fits who you are. For example, if you don’t use scented candles at home and you do not care for cutesy home décor, then don’t fool yourself into thinking that you will be the … Continue reading

Does a Messy Home Mean Happier Kids?

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about having a more peaceful home. Not too long ago I wrote about how I am trying to NOT yell at my kids in the article, The Voice of Domestic Peace. Part of working on that goal is working on eliminating stress from my life. There is a direct correlation between stress in my life, and how often I raise my voice at my kids. I want it to stop. Unfortunately, like the rest of the world, there are a lot of things that cause me stress. It is in my genetics to have … Continue reading

Transitioning from Work to Home Mode

I was recently thinking about some of the positive aspects to working outside the home. For instance, commuting can be a real source of frustration for many who do it on a daily basis. But I was thinking about how it can also be used as a time of transitioning. That commute can help you move from home mode to work mode and then vice versa when the day is over with. Depending on how long you are commuting and the form of transportation you take, you could spend your time unwinding by listening to music or reading. The point … Continue reading

Grateful For The Opportunity to Work From Home

One great thing about being a home – based professional is that you can do your work in the comfort of your own home. This aspect of home – based work has been especially enjoyable the past few months as I have gotten more and more pregnant and less and less comfortable in the maternity clothes that I wore the last time around. As offensive as it is to my sense of fashion, I spend much of my time in sweatpants including my work time. Some home – based professionals would advise against working in your pajamas or sweatpants, insisting … Continue reading

Diary of a Work-at-Home Mom, Part 6

Today is not my birthday, nor is it my anniversary or any other special day that would usually cause me to receive gifts. I did receive two unexpected gifts today, though. Both of them were given by my nineteen-month-old son, who has a very generous heart for someone so small. He gives freely, especially hugs, kisses, and smiles but today he gave even more than that. The first gift arrived during his nap time. Usually he naps for about an hour, and I do as much work as I can during that time. Today, though, he napped for two hours. … Continue reading

Why Bother Being a Homemaker?

When I’ve muttered about going back to work full time, they’ve been very vague mutterings. Recently my husband said that he thought it was a spectacularly bad idea. I tend to agree. Homemaking is a lost art. I live in a place where the cost of living is very high. It’s not as high as a few places in the world, but it’s high enough to make it quite difficult to get by on one income, depending on what that income might be. The truth is, I work part time at a day job and part time on contracts, making … Continue reading

A Relaxed Home

Have you ever walked into an exhibition house at a display village? They are often tastefully decorated but are impersonal. They have a certain bland sameness. The reason is they are decorated by decorating firms without any idea of a personality. When a visitor walked into our home recently she said, ‘what a lovely home.’ The reason I believe, is not because of the floor plan of the house but because our house simply reflects our personalities and interests. Several things are evident from when you first walk in the door. One is that we love books. Two is that … Continue reading

Pairing Work and Homeschooling

Our fall schedule appears to be exploding, and so is my head. I’ve come to a realization that this is sometimes why people put their children in school: school is at one location and at a specific time. That seems so easy. Really, it’s not so bad. I’m just trying to wrap my head around our first official year of home learning, and my brain is exploding. That is all. At times like these, I wish I was a work at home or stay at home mom. However, I know that every life has different challenges. Stay at home moms … Continue reading

Exploring Homeschool Methods

Finding a homeschool method that fits your family will focus your homeschool and improve the educational experience. I spent a few years exploring methods before deciding on the one that suited my family the best. Since that moment, my children and I have benefited in numerous ways. I encourage you to research the methods for yourself. A lack of vision and focus, as with any endeavor will result in failure and frustration. However, choosing a method should not be frustrating; it should be a natural fit into your family’s lifestyle. The method is simply framework for how your homeschool is … Continue reading

What Homeschooling Has Taught Me

I began homeschooling because I felt I had no other choice. My children that seemed exceedingly bright to me, and others who would comment were not thriving in school. I knew I had to do something different. In my quest to teach my kids all about math, reading comprehension, grammar, history, and science, I learned a lot more. Here are some of the things homeschooling taught me. 1. Homeschooling taught me that my kids are my responsibility. This might seem like a no-brainer, but these days we are programmed to hand our kids over to schools and care centers and … Continue reading
