After Christmas

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and you are each continuing to enjoy the holiday season. I'm looking forward to a great new year, but I'm also thinking about where I'm going to put all these Christmas lights, ornaments, and decorations. These things seem to be taking on a life of their own. I can no longer close the lids on the storage boxes.

If you're like me, you probably have more holiday stuff than you really need. This is a great time to take stock. As you remove decorations from the tree and begin preparing items for storage, go through all your holiday decorations and see if there aren't some things you can do without. Make more room for the things you really love and get rid of some of that old stuff that's taking up valuable space.

Is that tangled string of lights from two years ago still collecting dust in your attic? You are probably not going to bother untangling them, especially if you have already purchased new lights. It's okay to toss them.

What about all those mismatched ornaments that have found their way into your collection? You don't use them, and they don't go with any of your other stuff, so why are they taking up space? Gather them up and donate them to Goodwill or some other charity organization. A family that is less fortunate than yours may be glad to have them when it's time to decorate next year.

Also, check glass and ceramic items for cracks. Any damaged items should be discarded. You can look for replacements at all those great after Christmas sales, where you'll find plenty of decorations to choose from, many at up to 50% off. Just be careful not to overdo it or you'll end up filling up all the extra space you cleared out!

Happy New Year!
