The chicken or the egg?

A classic question that is applied to a variety of situations – which came first? Sometimes the question can be answered with science, sometimes not. Some research that came out this week was able to shed some light on one of these questions – do those with anxiety self-medicate because they are substance abusers, or do those with anxiety become substance abusers because they self-medicate? At first this might seem a weird question to ask – does it really matter which came first when you are talking about people with anxiety that have substance abuse problems? The simple answer is … Continue reading

Audrey Santo Proved that All Life Has Value

Audrey Santo, widely referred to as Little Audrey, was three-years-old when she fell into the family swimming pool. Rushed to the hospital, Audrey fell into a coma. After three weeks she awoke, but would remain in a condition called Akinetic Mutism. She could not talk and could only make slight movements. The doctors wanted her sent to an institution, but her mother refused. She believed Audrey would receive better care at home. This is a scenario that neither my mind nor heart cannot begin to grasp. Update on Bret Michaels and Hugh Hefner Saves the Hollywood Sign

As you have probably heard, former Poison frontman Bret Michaels suffered a painful brain hemorrhage last Thursday and has been in critical condition every since. The doctors continue to run tests, trying to find the cause of the bleeding at the stem of his brain. Some are … Continue reading

An Intro and An Update

Well, I’m finally ready and boy do I have an adoption story for you! I will start sharing that tomorrow so make sure you check back. In the meantime, let me introduce myself again partly because I … Continue reading

Home Week in Review: February 18 – 24

They say change is good. Change is healthy. Change is important. Each of these is often true, but change can also sometimes be sad. We have gone through some changes recently here at Families.com, and with those changes, people have been moved around, and some have left us. Unfortunately, Marjorie Dorfman won’t be here any longer and I bid her a fond farewell. She has given us some great articles over the past year, so I hope everyone will continue enjoying the articles she has posted previously. Michele is still here but after this month, she will be busy with … Continue reading

Author Interview — Candace Salima

Candace Salima is a multi-talented author, screenwriter, and entrepreneur. Despite her busy schedule, she has taken the time to grant an interview to Familes.com. Candace, thank you for joining us today. You have written many blogs for the LDS section here at Families.com which are still easily found in the archives, but I notice you haven’t posted anything recently. Are you still with the company? Can we expect to see more blogs from you in the future? Due to many obligations in my life I have had to step back from blogging with Families.com for the time being. I have … Continue reading
