Artwork and Relaxation

Most people enjoy art even if they are not exactly connoisseurs. Different ways of using space and color can achieve many different thoughts and feelings. Some paintings as well as other works of art draw emotion from the viewer, while others may be inspirational, provocative, or may make either a strong or a simple statement. The type of artwork you choose, may tell people a lot about you. It may also make a difference in how well you are able to relax.

For example, it is said that photos or portraits of children in the master bedroom of a married couple is not recommended. Gazing at one's children is not necessarily conducive to romance. In addition, looking at children tends to remind us of the million and one things we need to do. Instead of engaging in romance, or simply resting and relaxing, we are checking off tasks that we need to complete, such as making lunches, signing permission slips, making dental appointments, and sorting socks.

In other words, it may be better to choose a different space to show off your little angels. A picture of you and your spouse is a better choice for a relaxing, romantic master bedroom.

Speaking of the bedroom, if you have artwork in the space that you see as you lie down to sleep or as you open your eyes in the morning, make sure it is something calming and peaceful. Images of nature tend to work best, such as landscapes, sunsets, and especially flowers.

Botanicals are nice, but flowers instead of just greenery tend to add an even deeper sense of relaxation. Move those abstract paintings to another room, one in which you don't go to rest. Studies indicate that abstract art creates more anxiety and that natural images are more likely to decrease stress and even blood pressure.
