Back Home Again

There is a saying that you can never go home again. While some of that may be true (I'll never fit into my fifth grade dance costume, for example), when it comes to an actual home, I think the statement is a little misleading.

Life changes, and our home reflect those changes. In my life, I've lived in a smaller starter home filled with mismatched hand me down furniture, a sleek luxury apartment with hip accessories, a home filled with a crib, a high chair and lots of pastel and baby things, and a home where toys seem to have taken over. I've lived in construction zones and in quite small rooms of my own. I lived in houses with more yard than house and a tiny New York apartment with no yard at all. All of these places were and still are home to me.

It has been a few months since I wrote for the home blog here at families.com, but now I get the opportunity to do so again. I'm excited for a number of reasons. There have been plenty of adventures involving my home, from a semi-upgraded bathroom to one weird day where we were reminded about the importance of a garage for our home.

We've been exploring new windows and a geo-thermal system, and have been brainstorming some organizational ideas. I still love watching those home organization, decorating and real estate shows.

I'm also excited to be writing for the home blog again so close to the upcoming holiday season. I have some new decorating ideas that I would like to share. It really is the most wonderful time of the year.

I also hope that you, as a reader, will able to give me perspective on some of these things, thanks to your own skills, experience and taste. You wouldn't let me paint the bathroom walls fuchsia, would you?

If you are new to the home blog, welcome. And if you are an old pro, then I am so happy to see you! Please leave me a comment to introduce yourself or reacquaint yourself.
