What kind of deals will you get this year for Black Friday 2012? How early will the stores open and will the bargains be worth fighting the crowds and the lack of sleep? Even though it is only September, some of the experts are already making their predictions. Gottadeal.com is reporting that things will mostly be the way that they were last year for Black Friday. The stores will be open early, some of them on Thanksgiving, as I already reported. Baby Blog Month in Review: July 2008

Two of my three children are summer babies. That is, they were born in the summer and had their first months surrounded by sunshine streaming in the windows, the sound of birds chirping, and days spent wearing nothing but a diaper and a “onsie.” I made sure that they had Fourth of July outfits ready, even though one of them arrived a week after the holiday. I guess he just wasn’t interested in the parade. Do you have a summer baby, too? We had a lot of new information to share this past month, such as recall notices and new … Continue reading

Other Thoughts on Black Friday

For some, today is not about shopping the biggest sales of the year. Many people will avoid making any purchases because today has also been designated, “Buy Nothing Day,” an event encouraged by AdBusters Magazine (but apparently not MTV). While the spirit of the event seems to make sense, avoiding commercialism, I have to wonder… does it really have an impact on retailers’ bottom lines? It may in fact hurt Friday’s sales, but won’t people simply stock up in advance or by more on Saturday and following days? People are going to buy Christmas presents, decorations, party foods, wrapping paper, … Continue reading

Black Friday: Camping Out

Last Christmas, the Wii was at the top of all four of my children’s lists. Could they have chosen anything more difficult to obtain? I scoured and scoured ads, called stores, begged favors. Nothing worked. We got notice from a friend that WalMart would have a limited number of them for sale on a particular Tuesday. I was determined. I packed a Black Friday camping kit. A folding chair – to sit in because the ground can get hard. A sleeping bag – it was 22 degrees outside and a blanket or throw just doesn’t keep you as warm as … Continue reading

Retailers intend to kick off the Christmas shopping season early this year. In fact, some will begin today, three weeks before the typical Black Friday shopping extravaganzas. With high fuel costs, and other prices (including heating fuel) rising, people may be more cautious in their holiday spending. Numerous recalls of products from pet food and ground beef to toys and even toothpaste, have also left consumers with a bad taste in their mouths. All of these issues have retailers worried, so they are trying to give consumers a little nudge with earlier sales. As unsettling as all these issues may … Continue reading

If you are a bit of a novice when it comes to the world of bargains, deals, coupons, rebates, Frugal Living, or just finding ways to save money, you may not know what Black Friday is. It is usually the busiest shopping day of the year, even if it’s not the day that shows the biggest profits for retailers. The days that show the biggest profits tend to be closer to Christmas, … Continue reading
