Break out the Spray Paint

I used to think that in order to achieve a quality paint job everything had to be hand painted. I rarely used spray paint. I had seen designers on home improvement shows use spray paint, and learned that it is important to spray it lightly and evenly. You don't want drips, and that's what you'll get if you stand too close or spray too heavily. It's best to apply several light coats.

I learned to love spray paint when I tried to hand paint the drawer fronts of an old dresser I had. They were textured in a faux wicker/bamboo design. I simply could not get into the cracks and crevices well enough to achieve even coverage, so I reached for the spray paint. It worked perfectly.

Now, I am more likely to try spray paint first for many of my projects. In fact, I have several projects lined up, and I'm just waiting for the weather to cooperate so I can step outside and update a few things.

Luckily, there were a few nice days recently in which I was able to use my trusty spray paint. I had an old cart that was once used in the kitchen that I have carried with me for years, from move to move. It has seen better days, but I needed another storage shelf in my little girl's room. I decided to clean it up with a coat of white paint, and it was really easy. Two cans of white spray paint later, and it looked like new.

I added purple fabric placemats to go with other purple elements, and I threw in a few inexpensive plastic baskets. In no time, I was able to add a good bit of storage and it looks cute too.

Spray paint is a great tool for breezing through projects and for saving time and money.
