Candles In Your Home

Candles have been setting moods in the home of mankind for many centuries and almost every culture in every part of the world has used and enjoyed them. Candles signify many things to many people, all of which are warm and inviting. Whether they light the way to spiritual brightness or enhance the intimacy of a quiet dinner, candles are as much a part of our present lives as our historical past. To create a warm glow in any room, simply place candles all around it, encasing them in something safe, like glass globes or stemmed glasses. Be careful not to put them somewhere they can cause damage, like on a shelf where they may burn a shelf above. (I once did that and without anything to drink, I might add.) For a dazzling effect, set candles on a mirrored tray in front of a mirror. Back up candlelight with dim lamplight.

The best time to buy candles is just before and after the holiday season. Stock up. You will use them. Also, try oil lamps for a new and different lighting effect. Some say these lamps are more versatile as they can be used outside or inside a home and the amount of light can be controlled with the wick. They also burn cleaner than most candles do.

Candle-power is here to stay and its effect has remained unchanged down through the years. Candles are as mood-enhancing as any drink or drug could ever be (if not more so because there's no toppling over involved). Embrace candle-power, but be careful with it. Don't burn yourself. If you do, you will find yourself reciting that old Russian proverb, "light a candle and curse the darkness" (except it won't be the darkness you are cursing).
