The Freezer and Passsionfruit

I adore passionfruit. That is obvious by the number of passionfruit vines we have growing at our place. Currently our two black passionfruit, Nellie Kellie, have been so laden with fruit, Mick's going to need a stronger trellis for next year.

It's starting to feel like spring here in the Pacific Northwest. While everyone else is still plowing snow, we're generally tending the crocuses. In the cold, wet rain, of course. Spring gets me thinking about the garden, so expect a lot of garden-related posts in the coming weeks.

So you're ready to really start planting in your ring garden in mid spring. Suggested vegetables would be tomatoes 4-5 seedlings of whatever tallish variety you fancy. Mick has alwsy been a fan of gross lisse.

As promised here is part 2 of the ring garden project started yesterday. In your compost heap will go green clippings from the yard, leaves, vegetable and fruit peelings, (only not onion or potato peel) and egg shells.

This ring garden idea is one Mick has used in several houses we have lived in with great success. It consists of a compost heap around which the circular garden is grown. Having the compost heap in the centre means the nutrients go out from it to all plants in the ring garden.

Spring is just around the corner up here in the northern climes. Oh yes, I know that there is snow up to your chest and that shiver with dread as you think about going outside into the deep cold. However, it's at this time of year that I start to think about spring. It's best to plan ahead.

At the moment in our vegetable garden, we're picking tomatoes, apple cucumbers, beans, silver beet, zucchinis. Sweet capsicums are starting to come on. We picked our first yesterday and used them on pizza.

A Happy Accident Gives Free Passionfruit

Sometimes things that happen by accident turn out for the best. One time a friend was given several passionfruit in a paper bag. She put them in the fridge. They got pushed to the back as things often do in fridges and as a result she forgot about them.
