Celebrating New Year's Eve

How have your New Year's Eve celebrations changed over the years? When we marry or have children or other major events occur in our lives, we tend to change the way we do things.

I remember times where I got dressed to the nines to go out and paint the town. Sometimes, I think it would be fun to do so again, but I've also grown to enjoy the night at home with the kids drinking sparkling grape juice, dancing to their latest music, playing games, and watching various celebrations on TV from around the world.

Going out to dinner is nice, but so is making a feast at home. Steak, prime rib, seafood, or other favorites are a nice treat. We usually like to have our own little party with finger foods and hors d'oeuvres instead of a sit down meal, which is what we plan to do this year.

Staying home isn't so bad, especially considering the fact that New Year's Eve is called "amateur night" for a reason. While one of our kids has to work, she'll be home early before things get too crazy. We haven't had to contend with the kids asking to go off to party's with their friends yet, and I believe it's because we have such a good time at home. I also trust that they are using good judgment as I know some of those parties are not the types of events I would want them to attend.

So, what do you have planned for this New Year's Eve? Will it be an exciting night out, a quiet late dinner and a show, an evening at home, a party, or a combination of things?

Whatever you end up doing, I hope you have a happy, fun, and safe evening and a fantastic New Year.
