Christmas Has Got to Goby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 07 Jan 2008 11:38 AM
Despite the protests by everyone under seven, Christmas has got to go. There are more ornaments that have been knocked to the ground or used as play food than there are on the tree. Despite the fact that I've probably only gained seven pounds, Christmas has got to go. Is there a home for unwanted cookies? Despite how pretty the outdoor decorations look, Christmas has got to go. My husband says that white light in artificial outdoor trees represent winter and can be kept up for another month. I think he had too many cookies. Despite the fact that our Christmas newsletter still sits somewhere in the cyberspace on our computer and not in the hands of family and friends, Christmas has got to go. Despite the fact that only half of our decorations actually got put up this year, Christmas has got to go. I guess we didn't really need the red and green toilet paper cozies after all. Despite my efforts to hide from the neighbors that I did not get around to giving cards and candy, Christmas has got to go. Maybe I could drop a hint that their has been a string of petty candy thefts in the neighborhood. Despite the fact that it is only one day past the Epiphany, my excuse for still having a Christmas tree, Christmas has got to go. Okay, so I don't actually celebrate the Epiphany. Despite how my daughter only got to wear her Christmas dress once, Christmas has got to go. Maybe she can wear it as a shirt next year. Despite the pumpkins still outside in our yard, leftover from the Fall, Christmas has got to go. We just stuck some antlers on them. Despite the ice skating that we promised to try and didn't yet get around to doing it, Christmas has got to go. Perhaps we can do figures of hearts on the ice in February. Despite the fact that I am still humming and singing Christmas songs in the car and around the house, Christmas has got to go. Hey, it beats singing "Three green and speckled frogs" another 546.5 times. So today, I'm bagging up the beads, wrapping up the ornaments, demolishing the Christmas village and taking down the tree. At least...it is only another 352 days and 11 hours until next Christmas. As I take it down, I am packing it to go, since by this time next year I will have really really moved!!! Mary Ann Romans (26886) 07 Jan 2008 01:20 PMWow, what an exciting time! We did the same last year, selling our home in late December and moving at the end of March. Congratulations! Michele Cheplic (37349) 08 Jan 2008 05:41 AMI'm still picking up wrapping paper from Three Kings Day (Sunday was the Epiphany) and my daughter put grass and sugar cubes in her Christmas stocking for the Wise Men's camels and they in turn left her 3 gifts coupled with the ones my parents sent her so Christmas is just winding down in our home. Hopefully I'll have the tree down by Valentine's Day ;) just kidding. Mary Ann Romans (26886) 08 Jan 2008 06:36 AMYou could always just put little hearts on the tree. What a wonderful tradition at your house. Thanks for sharing it! Sherry Holetzky (11404) 08 Jan 2008 06:48 AMI love the 352 days thing... we have a little Santa chalkboard to mark the number of days until Christmas and my kids were doing that 365...364...363... LOL Lindsay Gray (19063) 08 Jan 2008 07:22 AMWe didn't get our decorations up until 12/21 so I feel I need to keep mine up a little longer. Although I'm getting tired of looking at them! Hopefully they will be down this weekend! Mary Ann Romans (26886) 08 Jan 2008 08:12 AMThe stores just rush Christmas upon us, and then the they rush out of it before the sugar cookies are even cooled. One radio station even stopped playing their Christmas music after noon on Christmas Day. it makes me feel a little cheated. QueenAngie Central Illinois, USA (60106) 09 Jan 2008 08:55 PMWe also were late in putting up Christmas decorations this year. So they are still up inside the house. DS#1 took the outside stuff down this past week. Love your blog! Mary Ann Romans (26886) 10 Jan 2008 05:12 AMOur outside stuff went up about a week before Christmas. At least we got everything at 30 percent off, since it was so late in the season. Thanks so much for reading, Queen Angie!
