Cleaning in 30 Minutes or Less: Fridays

It’s the last day of the week in this blog series. How will you end your week when it comes to cleaning? For me, I can do it in 30 minutes or less. The fact that my entire work week has been like this, makes my life so much easier. Not to sound like a broken record but once again, my cleaning routine includes breaking out the Lysol wipes and doing a quick wipe down in the kitchen and bathroom, which takes about 5 minutes. Then I focus the remaining time on dusting and mopping. I can complete dusting in … Continue reading

Top 5 Cleaning Tips

Cleaning probably doesn’t rank very high on most people’s lists when it comes to an enjoyable activity. Although, I do know of some people who find it therapeutic. But for the majority of us, we would rather avoid it at all costs. I’m one of those who can think of a million other things I would rather be doing. So I try to make cleaning as quick and easy as possible. Here are my top 5 cleaning tips. 1 – An economical, easy way to keep your drains unclogged is to pour some baking soda down your drains (kitchen and … Continue reading

Are you ready for spring cleaning? It is almost that time of year. Get a head start and make the process easier when you establish a spring cleaning checklist that works for you. Having a room by room checklist will also ensure that the most important jobs get done and nothing … Continue reading

Our Love Affair with a Floor Steamer

Well, I’ve been wanting a floor steamer for a while, and we finally got one! We took the plunge. Would it be a household help or an extra chore? We purchased the unit from Target and were ready to go. Like any new toy in the house, my husband and I battled over who would get to try it first. I wanted the steamer for deep cleaning without using chemicals. My husband wanted it as a substitute for the everyday mopping we had been doing with the Swiffer Wet Mop. We are analytical people and were ready to converse on … Continue reading

Cleaning Small Appliances

When I clean the house I often overlook the little things. Dusting baseboards or door frames, vacuuming under the furniture, cleaning the small appliances. Unfortunately, those things will build up and tattle on you so they should be done on a regular basis and as for dusting baseboards, I’ve found if you give a toddler a feather duster and a cloth they will happily dust for you. It may not be perfect but at least someone is doing it! I like appliances, I don’t really like to cook all that much but I do like appliances. I will even buy … Continue reading

Cleaning with a Shark

I am a sucker for TV infomercials. I’m enthralled by tomatoes that grow upside down, knives that cut through rusty nails and cupcakes the size of small third countries. However, the one product that I actively pursued owning after seeing it suck up a bowling ball on national TV was the Shark handheld vacuum. Yes, I am the proud owner of the Shark 15.6-Volt Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner with Motorized Brush. And yes, it actually works. Whereas I have yet to test its Twister Cyclonic technology on a bowling ball, the cleaner works well sucking up cereal and glitter spills. … Continue reading

Cleaning the Carpet

Do you know how to deep clean or steam clean your carpets? We embarked on this adventure last weekend, and we learned a few things along the way. Our home has exactly one room with carpeting. It is a berber loop carpet that we had installed to replace some peeling and crumbling vinyl tile. Truth be told, I am not a big fan of carpeting, because I never feel as though it is really clean. For the first year of the new carpet’s life in our home I attempted to be vigilant, no let us say militant, about keeping it … Continue reading

Grill Cleaning Tips

My neighbor has decided to grill his turkey this Thanksgiving. What a bonus for his wife. She’ll have the freedom to cook as many side dishes as she pleases in their oven while Tom the Bird gets grilled outside. Apparently, there are legions of grill fanatics who don’t bother to pack away their cook tops when the temperatures drop. If you are one of these diehards, then it’s important to keep your grill as clean as possible. I’m not a huge fan of the fancy schmancy, as seen on TV grill cleaning tools, such as the Grill Daddy Cleaning Tool; … Continue reading

Safer Cleaning Products

Cleaning our home safely and with no toxins has become a project of mine. We want to kill the germs and bacteria in order to keep Maggie healthy, but we don’t want the chemicals getting into her lungs and causing her any breathing trouble either. So after her diagnosis of cystic fibrosis, I went on a mission to remove the chemicals and keep the clean. I have to say that my favorite products are by Seventh Generation; however, there are other great companies that offer the cleaning power of regular products without the harshness. In addition, I use hydrogen peroxide … Continue reading

Green Cleaning the Norwex Way

When it comes to living green I will be honest, I am more about saving money than anything else. About a month ago I attended a women’s event that featured two workshop speakers. The first workshop was about cleaning. As soon as I heard that word and saw her display of bottles and cloths, I started to tune her out. If there is one area in my life that I have never been willing to change it’s my cleaning routine. I like my chemicals! Now don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with natural or healthier ways to clean. … Continue reading
