Costume Jewelry in Home Décor?

Have you ever seen really beautiful costume jewelry? I'm not talking about neon colored plastic bracelets; I'm talking about high style pieces. The best pieces are generally older ones, like something your mom or grandma may have worn back in her day. Beautiful, dangling earrings dripping with rhinestones come to mind. Wouldn't they make great pieces to add to a candlelier or to hang from a pair candle sticks? All it takes is a little jewelry wire.

Don't forget extra large button earrings, fancy brooches, or eye-catching pins either. They are perfect for dressing up picture frames, adding to the corners of mirrors, or using in place of buttons when adorning accent pillows or tufting cushions.

Costume jewelry, large and small, can also be pinned onto plain sheer curtains or window scarves to dress them up. This is a great way to add some sparkle to a little girl's room. Pin several different pieces to curtains or hot glue them to curtain rods in place of finials for a shimmering effect that will delight your daughter.

Hot glue some pretty pieces to the outside edge of shelves to dress them up or make costume jewelry into unique drawer pulls or cabinet hardware. In most cases, it's as simple as hot gluing the jewelry to existing hardware.

If your mom, grandma, or great auntie do not have any pieces that interest you, or if they prefer not to give them up, search estate sales, antique shops, consignment shops, thrift stores, and online auctions for some dazzling pieces.

You can also find new, inexpensive reproductions. They are not at all the same quality as the older pieces, but they are also not as heavy, and they do come in some great styles that tend to have a more modern appearance. It depends on which style you prefer.
