Countdown to Thanksgiving: Five Days Awayby Sherry Holetzky | More from this Blogger 17 Nov 2007 07:29 AM How's it going? Are you feeling good and getting things done? Today's list contains at least one chore that most people dread: Cleaning the Oven There's nothing worse than having the aromas of homemade pie and succulent turkey overtaken by the smell of something burning, so make sure the oven is clean and ready to go. A non-stick, dishwasher-safe, oven liner is a great investment and it will help you avoid this chore in the future. Decorating Okay, now that the oven is shiny and clean, how about something a little more fun, like decorating for Thanksgiving? It doesn't have to be extravagant. In fact, it can be as simple as a ceramic pumpkin surrounded by silk leaves or a simple candle arrangement. Some of the scented candles available smell so much like pumpkin pie and other delicious treats that they'll have your mouth watering. A few simple items can help set the mood. Work on those handmade touches, and you can add centerpieces and more as the big day gets closer. Flowers If you intend to order flowers for your décor or to have delivered to loved ones you won't be able to see this holiday, you should order them now if you haven't already. Some florists only require 24 hours notice, but during the holidays, you're better off to act early. You can browse online to select arrangements and pick them up or have them delivered as needed. If there is a themed item you want, it may not be available if you wait too long.
Have you begun shopping for beverages? There are likely several different types on sale this week. Since these items tend to be heavy, the weekend is the perfect time to pick them up. You'll have helpers at home to assist you in carrying them inside. Store in an out of the way place for now. The cooler in your garage or basement is a great place to stash sodas and such until you need them. Don't forget to wash wine glasses and other extra glasses that you don't regularly use.
