Countdown to Thanksgiving: Three Days Left
by Sherry Holetzky | More from this Blogger
Are you getting excited? I am but I still have quite a bit to do. Are you getting lots of stuff crossed off your lists?
If you have yet to do the following, today is a good day, because time is running out!
Shopping
Finish shopping for fresh foods. They won't be any fresher sitting in the store for another day than they will be in your home, so get it out of the way before your favorite store becomes a total madhouse. While you're at the store, it's probably a good idea to pick up some pain reliever and antacid. I usually go with non-aspirin in case my guests are aspirin sensitive, and I keep antacid on hand in case someone overdoes it.
More Handy Items
Heavy-duty foil, inexpensive food storage containers, and ice trays will all come in handy. The foil is great for covering and lining while cooking and also for wrapping leftovers. Food storage containers are clearly needed for leftovers, but if you pick up disposable ones, you won't mind giving them out to guests who would like to take home a doggie bag. Saving margarine tubs and whipped topping containers with lids will also give you some extra options for sending home leftovers. If your icemaker won't keep up with the holiday demand, you might also want to pick up some ice trays or plan on picking up a couple bags of ice before the big day (so make room in your freezer or clean out the cooler). Where is the ice bucket?
Cleaning
While you've probably already done major cleaning like washing walls and windows, your house may need a little love before having holiday guests, since you've been so busy. Today is a good day for a final overall cleaning. You can touch up with the Dust Buster and cleaning wipes before guests arrive. Have fresh guest towels ready to put in place on Thursday.
