Tips for Slicing Homemade Bread

You know that I am a big advocate of making your own bread to save money (and eat healthier. Well, the other day, a reader of our blogs mentioned to me that she would love to have home made bread but thought that it was too much trouble. I suggested that she get a bread machine to make things easier. “Oh, it isn’t making the bread!” she said. “It is slicing the bread. The slices are always uneven or the bread gets squished or the slices are too big to use for sandwiches.” I was happy to hear this, because … Continue reading

It is … Continue reading

Banning Skinny People

Skinny person discrimination? Didn’t know there could be such a thing until I read a story about a gym in Canada that has actually banned skinny people from entering. In fact, you must be plus-sized in order to workout, the rules set forth by the gym’s owner at “Body Exchange” in Vancouver. Hmmm…I sense the possibility of a trend starting here. Now I have to admit, there may be something to this. I know that for some people, going to a fitness center can be really intimidating. Especially when you walk in and everyone in sight looks fit and toned. … Continue reading

Using Flour for Savings

I had some serious sticker shock the other day when I went to buy some oatmeal bread from Target. The price on the bread was a whopping $4! I think that the reason it shocked me so much is that I am used to making my own bread, for about $1.50 a loaf. Plus the homemade bread contains no preservatives, artificial ingredients or coloring added. It also doesn’t last very long at our house, so we might actually eat more of it than we would if it were store bought. I know that I could get bread for less than … Continue reading
