Deck the Stalls: Holiday Touches for the Bathroomby Sherry Holetzky | More from this Blogger 19 Dec 2006 09:59 AM Do you decorate your bathroom for the holidays? Some do, some don't. If you would like some ideas for dressing up the bath a bit, here are a few that you might find useful: - If you can't find a bath rug in a holiday print or design, there is no rule that says you can't purchase a throw rug meant for another space or even a soft welcome mat style rug for use in the bathroom. Adding a large decorative touch like a rug is a good place to start, because it will make a big impact.
- You can also transform a trashcan. Pick up an inexpensive wastebasket at a discount store and decoupage the exterior with Christmas wrapping paper or the covers from old Christmas cards.
- There's no need to purchase all new towels to gussy things up a little for the holidays. Choose solid colored towels that you can use for everyday or for other occasions, and simply drape them with one holiday themed towel. Another option is to sew some holiday trim or sparkly lace or ribbon across the band of a towel to give it an instant festive touch.
- Put up some Christmas lights instead of using a nightlight. Just be sure to keep them far enough away from sinks, tubs, and toilets. Miniature lights will create a subtle glow that will add some softness to the hard lines in the bathroom. Add a few candles here and there to inject more color and warmth.
- You can even dress up the toilet paper! It may sound a little silly, yet doesn't it make sense to keep extra paper out in the open where guests can find it? Place a few rolls in a pretty basket and tie a bright ribbon around it. Alternatively, you can place a couple of rolls in a nicely wrapped box or a cute holiday tin, or place an extra roll on a nearby cabinet or shelf and tie a pretty, sheer ribbon around the roll.
