Dry Erase Door

There are so many fun types of paint out there these days. These paints can let you be really creative, especially when it comes to a kids or teen's room. Previously, I talked about using blackboard paint for some different home projects. Now, let's take a look at another great type of paint: the dry-erase paint.

Dry-erase paint can be applied to any porous surface, such as wood to create an instant dry-erase board. Once the paint is throughly dry, you can use dry-erase markers to write on the board. With a simple wipe, the marks will come off and make the board blank to be used again and again.

I love the thought of using dry-erase paint for a teen's room, although you might also use it in the kitchen or office to create a message center. Back when I lived in a college dorm (and before cell phones), dry-erase boards were the main way that my friends and I communicated when we missed each other. messages could be left and replied to and then erased.

Let's take a look at turning an ordinary door into a message center.

First apply primer to the door. For best results, use an unfinished wooden door, or sand an existing door to make a smooth surface to take the paint.

After the primer dries, use painters tape to mark off the raised panels of the door, or whichever section of the door you would like to be made into the message board. Paint the rest of the door in any color that you prefer. A semi-gloss finish will be easy to clean.

Once our main door paint is dry, remove the tape and apply the dry erase paint to the raised panels of the door. Several coats will give you the best results. You can just follow the paint manufacturer's instructions for drying time between coats. Allow at least two days for the dry-erase paint to cure before writing or drawing on it with markers.

I have been looking for this paint everywhere....no paint store in texas believes me...where did you get yours?

Peg, I got the paint from a home improvement store chain called Lowes.
