Easter Bunny Questions

The Easter baskets are filled with goodies, and the eggs are all hidden in the woods. Those woods are a definite benefit to hiding Easter Eggs. The two oldest children are vibrating with anticipation, but they aren’t allowed downstairs until the youngest is up and about. it is tough for them to wait. The Easter Bunny was in a definite rush this morning. Stopping by on his way to the next house down the road, he didn’t have any time for my questions, questions that the kids made me promise that I would ask. The main question the kids posed … Continue reading

Homeschool Questions on Religion and Curriculum

I received some email questions last weekend from a student who is researching homeschooling. This student had some very good and informed questions, and so I thought I would present some of his questions here, with my answers. The first questions involve my decision to homeschool. Another question asked about criticism and support. I will now address the questions and religion and finances Does religion account as a contributing factor to your homeschooling? Religion was not considered when we decided to homeschool. However, we quickly realized that this was a great opportunity for us as Christians. By homeschooling, the children … Continue reading

Emphasize the Spiritual Events of Easter

Easter is one of the most important holidays. It is when we set aside time to remember and celebrate the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. These events made it possible for us to repent. They opened the way so that we may return to live with our Heavenly Father again. The events that we remember are so important, but it can be too easy to let them be pushed aside. Children often think only of Easter in terms of the candy, Easter egg hunts and presents received. While these activities are fun, they can distract from the true meaning … Continue reading

Snowing in Spring…Adjusting Our Frugal Plans

It is a few days past the official start of spring, and I am looking at a wintry wonderland just outside my window. The salt trucks and plows have been by, but they have to be diligent. Already the driveway and roads are covered with white. Despite about three inches of snow on the ground already and more to come, schools are not closed today. There is no excessive wind, and we are used to snow. The weather has been wrecking some havoc with our spring frugal plans. We can’t get started on our garden, and may lose out on … Continue reading

The Sock Fairy

You’ve heard of the Tooth Fairy, the Easter bunny, the Sandman, Santa Claus? Well, there’s a new mythical being on the block – the Sock Fairy. By night, she sneaks into bedrooms and places new socks in the drawers. By day, she sorts the laundry and throws the old socks away. If she’s really on the ball, she’ll get distinctive socks for each member of the family so everyone knows whose socks are whose. Mothers do a great many thankless jobs. I guess I’m lucky—I do get thanked for the thankless jobs. Sometimes my husband even brings me Ben and … Continue reading

Humor: National Grump Out Day

Here is another obscure holiday that you can have fun celebrating at home. Today, may 7th is National Grump Out Day for the United States of America. During this holiday, we are all supposed to stamp out grumpiness and eradicate it wherever we find it, whether it be in our selves or in others. No matter how sleep deprived you are, no matter how awful your boss is, you are simply not allowed to be grumpy (that is if you want to celebrate). It is hard not to have fun with this holiday, although I don’t know if it will … Continue reading

Home Week in Review: March 17 – 23

Easter is this week, and we hope each of you has a wonderful day, however you celebrate it. For some it is a momentous, wondrous occasion, which it is for me, the day my Savior rose from the grave. For others it is a whimsical day filled with candy and fun. Others may simply enjoy a day off. Our best to everyone. We started and ended this week talking about Easter, beginning with A Few Last Minute Easter Ideas and ending with Easter Bunny Questions. In between, we covered several other topics, from decorating to disaster relief. The Art of … Continue reading

Yes Son, I Am The Tooth Fairy

In a previous blog, I wrote about my efforts to keep my tooth fairy identity a secret. Tyler has been losing his baby teeth over the past few months and had asked me if I was, in fact, the tooth fairy. I told him that I wasn’t and he believed me but I knew it was just a matter of time before I would have to tell him the truth. That time came on Thursday. For over a week, he had a loose front tooth and on Wednesday, it finally popped out. When he went to bed Wednesday night he … Continue reading

Where do Parents Learn Their Tricks and Secrets?

A few days ago, my eldest daughter and I were looking at photo albums and chatting over old memories of her “growing up years.” Now, granted, at nearly seventeen, she thinks she’s pretty much finished with the growing up, but I’m not entirely convinced! One of the fun questions she asked me was, “How do parents know how to do those parent tricks—tooth fairies and holidays and such? How did you know that was going to be part of your job as a parent and how did you figure out what to do?” What a fun question! I don’t remember … Continue reading
