Even the Organizers Get Pangs

“Honey where is that prepaid phone we used to have?” my husband asked yesterday. I knew that the particular phone was long gone. It was mine, I had never used it, and I checked with my husband “just in case” before I got rid of it months ago. Nevertheless, he suddenly decided that he needed it, so I was in a little bit of trouble. The problem is that I get into these de-cluttering moods where I just have to toss something. Usually it is paperwork or magazines (we get a number of them free), but many times it is … Continue reading

Five Days to an Organized Pantry: Day 4

We are almost finished with our pantry organization! There is only today and tomorrow to go! Isn’t that great? So far, we’ve put some good practices in place. Let us continue now and keep up the good momentum. Day 4: Unwrap the Pack Most of the time when we get home from the grocery store, we take the groceries out of the bag and put them in the pantry right away. I know that if I don’t do it right then, I’m likely to have bags of groceries sitting on the kitchen counter or kitchen until the next day. To … Continue reading

Five Days to an Organized Pantry: Day 3

How are you doing with your pantry? Are you seeing some progress with getting it organized? Just remember that an organized pantry will make things much easier in the kitchen. Day 3: … Continue reading

Need Help Sorting Heirlooms From Trash?

Many genealogists can rattle off a list of the most important heirlooms that have been passed down in their family from one generation to the next. It isn’t so easy to make decisions about the importance of items stored in your basement, or in your relative’s attic. There is at least one company that can help you sort those things. Family heirlooms are a treasure. Part of what makes them so special is that they are tangible. It is nice to hear stories about how your great-great grandmother used to cook wonderful family dinners using a particular cooking pot. It … Continue reading

Organizing Those Hats and Mittens

I finally had it this weekend when it took swimming through a sea of winter wear just to get out of the door. Despite my best efforts to corral the chaos, there were hats, mittens, gloves and scarves everywhere in the front hall. I could probably have jumped off of the upstairs landing, executed a not-so-perfect swan dive and still not get hurt, thanks to the padding of a pile of soft, colorful acrylic. You know what leaves me shaking my head the most? The fact that even though there were all of those mittens and gloves all over the … Continue reading
