Fall and Holiday Decorating with Natureby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 29 Oct 2008 09:33 AM
I talked a little bit about using nature in yesterday's post about centerpieces and decorative items, but let's expand to cover little touches that can be used throughout the entire house. Some of these ideas are really different, I think. Please leave a comment and tell me which ones are your favorites. Let's start with that log. Depending on how deep it is cut, it can serve your decorating in different ways. Why not use a short cut log on the table as a base for candles? You can surround it by pine cones and holly for Christmas. Cut the log long and use it as seating around the fireplace. Hollow the middle of it out to fit a large, thick candle that can be placed in the fireplace for decor. Go out into the woods and gather pine cones of all shapes and sizes. You can try the idea I practiced when I wanted to decorate the dining room simply during the time we had our previous home on the market. I simply hung pine cones on gauzy ribbons from the window, hanging them at different lengths for interest. You can read more about it here: Frugal Decorating with Pine Cones. Take advantage of those colorful leaves before they all turn brown. Dry them between paper towels inside heavy books. The use spray adhesive to fix them to mat board. Take a gold pen and carefully write the names of the leaves on the map. Use an elegant script. Then you can frame and hang your masterpiece. Check back tomorrow for more ideas for decorating with nature for fall and the holidays.
