Developing a Seasonal Cleaning Plan

Living in Wisconsin, I get to experience all of the seasons.  Of course, some last longer than others but I honestly wouldn’t give up the chance to sweat in summer, rake leaves in the fall, bundle up in the winter and observe new growth in the spring. One of the opportunities I take advantage of, because I get to experience these seasonal changes, is cleaning.  Now who thinks of cleaning as an opportunity, right? Seasonal cleaning allows you to concentrate on certain areas you don’t traditionally get to.  But you do it at a time that makes sense.  That is … Continue reading

3 Types of Cleaning

My first housekeeping blog for the year was sort of a challenge; in conquering what I feel has become a lost art in today’s society.  The care of the home isn’t always considered to be so important.  But I believe it’s one of the ways we show love to our family. I also mentioned how housekeeping has evolved into what we typically refer to as homemaking.  I suspect that some think of the word “housekeeping” in a negative light. No matter what you call it, my goal is to help you understand the importance of it and what it all … Continue reading

Cleaning Up at the Bake Sale

Even if you are on a tight budget, you can often help out a charity by participating in a bake sale to raise funds. If you want to make the most impact, while still being frugal, try the following tips. Don’t Forget the Donation Jar Sometimes people’s diets don’t allow them to buy something, although they would like to contribute. Set out a donation jar for just this purpose. Sometimes customers will purchase something and make a donation, a plus for your charity. Accommodate Different Diets If you have a variety of different goods for different lifestyles and diets, you … Continue reading

Getting Ready for Fall Cleaning

Although the fall season isn’t quite here, it is definitely on the horizon. Here in my neck of the woods the temps are supposed to start dropping this weekend, a sure sign of what is to come. One of the things I do in the fall is what I call “fall cleaning.” It is similar to “spring cleaning,” but with a little bit of a different emphasis. You see, I’m getting the house ready for the colder months in which the windows will be shut and we will be spending more time indoors. What I do during fall cleaning is … Continue reading

Spring Cleaning the Bathroom – Part 3

Do you feel that spring cleaning is in the air? This is the perfect time of the year to deep clean and organize those rooms. And today we are going to be focusing on the bathroom. Without maintaining the bathroom, it can quickly fall into bad shape. Depending on how badly your bathroom needs it, you may need to do a thorough scrub down. My advice is to start with the decluttering, with the most likely culprit to be the medicine cabinet. This is a great opportunity to go through and throw out expired or unused medicines. Be sure to … Continue reading

Spring Cleaning Living & Dining Rooms – Part 2

Now we get down to business, with our spring cleaning plan room-by-room. Since most homes have their living and dining rooms attached, I am covering both in one blog. You may not have this type of setup and so you can focus on just one room at a time if it’s easier. My living room opens up into my dining room, so the way I begin is by emptying as much of one room as I can. I will put a majority of the things from the living room into the dining room and vice versa. Items I can’t fit … Continue reading

Spring Cleaning – Part 1

It’s that time already…spring cleaning is on the minds of many. Although I am more about the fall cleaning, I have decided to make this a twice-a-year event. This means deep cleaning and organizing in preparation for the warmer months. This week we had one of those rare warm days we get in Wisconsin when it’s still March. It was in the lower 60’s and I was able to open my patio door. There is just nothing like fresh air when your house has been closed up all winter long. That’s what kind of kicked it off in my mind … Continue reading

Turning Cleaning into Exercise

Yesterday I decided to do some “fall cleaning.” Yes, I like to be different. Instead of deep cleaning my home in the spring (when I would much rather be outside), I do it in the fall. It helps prepare my home for the upcoming holidays and I like it to be really clean when I am going to be spending so much more time indoors. I only tackled my living room yesterday but it took me a good 3 hours. There was a lot of scrubbing (I have hardwood floors), wiping down walls, dusting and wrestling with these new sofa/loveseat … Continue reading

Forget Spring Cleaning, Try Fall Cleaning

Forget spring cleaning…I am not a fan of it. I prefer to do my “spring” cleaning in the fall. I have two reasons for this. The first is that I figure with having windows open throughout the warmer months, I have collected enough dust or whatever else may come in, that it needs a thorough cleaning. The second reason I prefer “fall cleaning” is because if I am going to be stuck inside my house for the next several months, I want it to be as clean as possible. Plus, it helps me prepare our home for the upcoming, busy … Continue reading

Cleaning Out The Closets

The change of seasons is a good reminder to clean and reorganize your closets. I always rotate clothes with the seasons, this gives me more room in the closet and allows me to see what I’ve really been wearing. First you need to pull everything out of your closet, not all at once, one thing at a time. Ask yourself these questions: 1. How often did I wear this? If the answer is less than twice in six months, it should go in a give a way bag. 2. Do I feel good when I wear this? If it makes … Continue reading
