With the holidays approaching, extra cleaning is the last thing that you need to do. with all of the holiday activities, such as baking, decorating and gifting, who has time to attend to the more mundane cleaning tasks? But, if you still want your home to be company ready, you'll have to learn a couple of tricks to cut down on the maintenance.

One easy trick will help you fight soap scum on your shower walls. You can use this technique to remove existing soap scum and prevent it from coming back. And the best part of all? This method of fighting soap scum is much less expensive than some other methods that promise to reduce your shower cleaning, such as those automatic cleaning machines that attach in your shower.

To clean the soap scum, simply use mineral oil or lemon oil. Lemon oil smells wonderful, so it is my first choice. You can find mineral oil in a drugstore or in the health and beauty aids section of your grocery store. Lemon oil can be found in the cleaning section. Using a soft cloth, rub the oil onto the shower doors and walls. The oil will remove all of the spots. Then rub the cloth some more to polish the surface.

The next time you take a shower, you will be amazed at how the water and soap just runs right off of the doors and walls. It is one less cleaning chore you will need to worry about. Repeat this treatment every few weeks as necessary.

One word of caution when you are applying the oil. You might want to cover the bottom of the tub or shower floor before you use the oil. This will prevent any oil from accidentally spilling into the tub or the floor and cause a slipping accident.
