Getting Started on the Nurseryby Sherry Holetzky | More from this Blogger 27 Jan 2007 07:20 AM Having a baby is very exciting, as is creating the perfect nursery for your little angel. There are so many different items available for decorating the nursery today that it can be difficult to choose. Where should you begin? It helps to picture the nursery you want to create in your mind and decide if you would like it to revolve around a theme or a certain color scheme or design style. Do you want a trademark character theme, animals, something gender specific, or gender neutral? Do you have a special color in mind that you just love? Should the color be gender neutral too? Do you want the nursery to reflect the colors and/or style throughout the rest of your home, should the nursery décor be unique? The number of choices can be overwhelming. If you are having trouble deciding, you may want to begin by using a neutral color for a backdrop. While repainting is generally affordable if you change your mind soon, removing and replacing carpet can be expensive and it can be stressful, because you'll have to have all the furniture moved. Carpet is one item that you will probably be better off keeping neutral. You can always add cute, colorful, fun rugs to bring some color down to the floor. You may also want to keep the basic elements such as crib or other large pieces of furniture, bedding, and window treatments gender neutral if not entirely neutral so that you can use them again if you are planning to have another child. That doesn't mean the nursery has to be plain or boring. You can give the room personality with accents, accessories, wall hangings and other artwork, as well as smaller furnishings. Reversible decor elements are also good choices if you are having trouble deciding. This way, you can switch them out and use the other color whenever you change your mind. They also work great for making quick updates, as your child gets bigger. Learn more about Sherry Holetzky Sherry Holetzky is a work at home mom and freelance writer.
