Great Home Tips

I'm always searching for great tips that I can use around the house. Sometimes the simplest solution is the most ingenious. When faced with a common problem, little household tips can come to the rescue. Here are some ideas that I have been thinking about or practicing lately.

I keep a spray bottle with a half vinegar and half water mix under the bathroom sink, along with some soft rags. The spray bottle and rags make it easy to clean up the shower doors, the sink and anywhere in the bathroom in just a few minutes. Plus I know that there are no toxic cleaners that the kids can get into.

If you want a quick and easy way to deal with fogged up car windows, then try this trick that doesn't require waiting for the defroster to work. Go and purchase a standard school chalkboard eraser and store it in your glove compartment. A quick swipe across the windshield and the fog will be banished without any streaks.

Cheap hair shampoo does a great job of cleaning the bathroom. I found that it shines tubs and sinks without much scrubbing. Plus it is a lot less expensive than those heavy commercial cleaners. Use a scrub brush if you have really stubborn stains.

If your cell phone accidentally falls into water, there is still a chance that it can be saved. Pull it out and then remove the battery right away. Use a hair dryer on low to dry the phone. Once it is dry, you can try putting the battery back in. You may or may not need to get a new battery, but at least you will save your phone.

I have two favorite ways for cleaning up an egg that has dropped and cracked on the floor or counter. The first is to sprinkle salt on it. You have to wait a few minutes for the salt to work. It will make the egg hard enough to lift up like a cooked egg. Another method to use is to quickly pick up a spilled egg is a turkey baster. It will suck the whole egg up in no time.
