Halloween Party Themes

jackolantern It's not too late to put on a spectacular Halloween party at home. Invite your neighbors to come over after trick or treating, or plan the party for the day after Halloween and get a little more use out of those costumes.

Having a Halloween party theme can go a long way in making preparations easier. You can have a set of parameters to work in, so making decisions about decorations and food will be easy.

Just remember that there are different approaches to having a party for kids and a party for adults. Adults might not appreciate the cutesy theme food, such as grapes on spaghetti for eyeballs and brains, or lady finger cakes topped with red nails (dyed almonds). Kids may need some of the scary elements of the holiday toned down and may not appreciate subtle or sophisticated decor.

If you are searching for a theme that might work for both kids and adults, check out one of these ideas.

Haunted House

This is probably one of the easiest themes to do at the last minute. You already have the house, so just add some cobwebs, fake spiders, gauzy fabric or black sheets on the walls, etc.

Mad Scientist Lab

What fun it could be to serve drinks in beakers and food in petri dishes. The host can be the mad scientist himself and ask for volunteers for his experiments. For ideas on decorating, just reach into the back of your refrigerator to see what science experiments might inspire you. For activities, pick up simple science kits that adults and kids can do together, such as creating volcanos or seeing what happens when you insert a pin into a balloon without breaking it.

The Adams Family

Build your decorations in shades of gray just like on the old television show. You can decorate your home with antiques from the thrift store, play the theme music at the party and use cobwebs, fake spiders and headless roses for decoration.
