Happy Birthday Dylan

It’s nearly official. Dylan went to bed as a two year old, and when he awakens in the morning it will be his third birthday. Good night, toddler, good morning, preschooler. I’m not sure that I agree with all of those people who say that “it goes by so fast”, but that might be either because not enough time has passed and I’ll be saying it a few years from now or because I have been lucky enough to stay home with him and experience (nearly) every waking moment of his toddlerhood. There is no one word that sums up … Continue reading

Operation Donation Is Underway

Yesterday I talked about my grand plans for narrowing down Dylan’s toy collection in preparation for his birthday and Christmas. Today, I was able to set the plan in motion. This afternoon, after we returned home from going out to lunch with my dad, Dylan went into the playroom to play. I brought Blake in there with me and I explained my plan to Dylan. We have four large bins in the playroom, and I explained that we were going to sort the toys into the bins. Two bins would be filled with toys that we would keep in the … Continue reading

When Sperm Donation Changes Kinship Terms

Your ancestors had only one way of producing a child. Today, technology has enabled children to be produced by sperm donation. A married couple in the Netherlands are using donated sperm from the husband’s father so that the couple can have a baby. This greatly alters the kinship terms that would normally be applied to a family. Sperm donation is an option that a couple, or a woman who is single, can use in order to conceive a child. People choose this method for a variety of reasons. A woman who is single may want to become a mother without … Continue reading

A Day of Service-2011

So, I have to admit that I was a little negative when I wrote this article. I was watching my husband work so hard on a ward service project, when he already has so much demanding his time in other areas of his life like work, family, and his calling. But, now that the day of service is over, I thought I would write about a great event, that helped lots of people! The goal of the service project was to first, get the neighborhood involved, not just the ward, and second, to get as many donations of food for … Continue reading

Shoes Have Taken Over

Why is it that the more clutter I get rid of the more we seem to have? I try to tackle all the obvious things but the things I overlook are taking over the house. Like shoes and jackets. It’s that time of year when warm clothing takes over the house. Since it is bulkier and takes up more room it looks like even more clutter than it is. My house is where shoes go to multiply, I’m quite sure this is what is happening. Only two people live in my house, the fact that we are both women who … Continue reading

What Are Your Payday Habits?

The habits we develop determine whether we are a success or a failure. The way we handle stress, the things we do to reward ourselves, and our payday routines will all impact our financial stability. If we go shopping when stressed or as a reward and come home with bags of unneeded items, we’re obviously not laying a solid financial foundation. But what about our payday habits? What do you do when you first get your check? First, I hope you verify the amount instead of just assuming you received the same as always. Sometimes deductions are taken without our … Continue reading
