When it comes to holiday decorating and adding extra festive little touches, ribbon is your friend. You can use any kind and there are great choices available from sheer, satin, and wired ribbon, to holiday themes.

Try these simple tips:

When Setting the Table

Group silverware together, knife, fork, spoon, and tie a ribbon around them. Make a neat bow. You can also roll silverware in a linen napkin before adding ribbon.

Tie gorgeous sheer or satin ribbon around the stems of glassware for an extra sparkly touch. You can also tie bows around single candy canes, and lay one on each dinner plate to help dress up the table.

For Side Tables and other Surfaces

Tie a ribbon around your plain planter or flowerpot to dress up existing houseplants, or add wide ribbon around a vase and tie a large bow. Fill with flowers, ornaments, pinecones, or candy. A short vase or a cylindrical bowl will look lovely with ribbon around it and candy canes inside.

Another idea is to place a mirror on a table, cut random lengths of ribbon, and arrange them atop the mirror. Snuggle metallic ornaments into folds of ribbon here and there or add candles.

Doors and Windows

Tie a huge bow and hang it on your front door or tie bows around doorknobs. snowflake Christmas decorationFor window treatments, remove an existing valance or swag and hang pretty ornaments from the curtain rod with ribbon at random lengths. You can also use the same idea to display Christmas cards in place of a valance.

Cut paper snowflakes just like you did when you were little (or have the kids do this part). Apply a light coat of spray snow and then sprinkle with silver and gold glitter (you may need some glue). You can either use silver and gold on each snowflake or make some silver and some gold. Attach sparkly silver, gold, or shiny white ribbon and hang from a curtain rod, from mug hooks, or on the tree.
