fu There may still be time to host a gathering together of friends for the Summer Olympics opening ceremony, which takes place tonight. No friends available? You can have a private little party with just the kids. Or, choose an upcoming weekend to host a real olympic-sized blow out. Keep reading for some tips to help you host a Summer Olympics party. We have ideas for invitations, favors and decoration.

Summer Olympics Invitations

A fun idea for invitations for a Summer Olympics party is to make them in the form of a medal. You can cut out a single circle from construction paper. Decorate the front of the medal and put your wording on the back. I would suggest copying the look of the real medals, although it could be whimsical to make up your own that reflects the "host" country of the party. In other words, you. You could also just incorporate appropriate colors, such as Red and Gold for the Beijing Summer Olympics. Punch a hole at the top of the invitation and include a ribbon, so the medals can be worn around the neck.

Alternatively, you could make up an invitation in the shape of the Olympic Torch, using construction paper or tissue paper for the flames.

Summer Olympics Favors

For favors, I like sticking with a USA theme, but you could also separate guests into countries for fun and give them favors that specifically represent that country. Oriental Trading has a lot of fun and inexpensive items that could be used, such as party beads in red, white and blue, hats, jewel tattoos, sports balls and of course, medals. For kids, purchase patriotically wrapped Tootsie Rolls, Chinese yo-yos, etc.

Summer Olympics Decoration

For an evening Summer Olympics party consider creating a mood by placing votive candles around the room. You can print and cut out a chinese character or symbol in black and attach it to the outside of a votive glass that contains a white candle for a dramatic effect. Your word processing software may have Chinese fonts available. This website will allow you to look up single Chinese characters by English. http://www.mandarintools.com/chardict.html

Have a great party!
