Houseguests when it's not Holiday Time

We tend to discuss making houseguests feel welcome during the major holiday seasons. However, there are many other occasions on which you may be hosting other people or entire other families in your home. Some people will prefer to book to a hotel room, while for others, such an expense could keep them from making the trip.

We often stay with family when traveling and also host family members when they visit. We've found that when there isn't a holiday or celebration, people can become bored. They want to be on vacation, not just sit around. While visiting and relaxing at home is nice some of the time, it is a good idea to plan activities for at leas part of the visit.

This might be a great time for you to act like a tourist yourself and visit some of the places nearby that you have been meaning to check out. Also, look for local fairs, festivals, and exhibits that coincide with your guests' time at your home.

Food is another important consideration. While dining out is likely to be on the menu, no one wants to dine out all the time. Besides, it gets expensive. Without all those holiday leftovers, you might be left looking for something to make into sandwiches. Picking up some cold cuts, cheeses, and breads is a handy option. You can make your own meat and cheese tray for far less than what a ready made one will cost you, even if you select the better cold cuts such as real turkey breast, baked ham, and roast beef.

A variety of breads, cheeses, garnishes, and condiments makes having sandwiches far more enjoyable. Add a pot of delicious homemade soup and you'll have a nice meal that will feed a lot of people, and quite likely leave you with some leftovers for lunch or for a later snack.
