Are You Dissapointed with Your New Flat Screen TV?

I remember being able to buy a TV knowing it would last for a decade or more. In recent years, you knew they would at run for at least 305 years, but the new Flat screen TV’s are incredibly disappointing with many of them needing repair or replacement in a matter of month. I have one Philips flat screen TV that died in 18 months and cost $200 to repair. We chalked that up to bad luck and got a smaller version for the bedroom. Granted, it was a floor model as our frugal side would never allow us to … Continue reading

Why You Should Take a Dog with You When You Die

Recently Wayne was goofing around with our DVR again and decided to put it to use recording old Twilight Zone shows. Before he leaves for work most mornings, we sit in front of the TV and eat breakfast together. Sometimes we watch the news, but since that’s been too depressing lately we’ve been relying on whatever DVR recordings are in the queue for our morning entertainment. That’s how we came to find ourselves watching one of the Twilight Zone reruns Monday morning. No Dogs Allowed in Heaven It was called “The Hunt.” It’s about an old man and his dog … Continue reading

Dream Job or Dream Girl? – A Positive Example of Men on TV

On one of my blogs a while back, Tristi had made a comment about how she’d noticed a trend, especially in the media, towards belittling men. In another blog, I wondered if she might be on to something –and if maybe I’d been subliminally affected by it and that’s why I was prone to assuming most men were philanderers at heart. But perhaps this media influence (because, I’ll shamefully admit, I watch way too much TV) might also account for some other thoughts I have about men. One’s I expressed in my “Men: The Weaker Sex?” blog. Bothered That blog … Continue reading

Oprah’s “Why Men Cheat” Controversy

Last week Oprah did a show called “How to Affair-Proof Your Marriage: Why Men Cheat Part 2.” I don’t know if she had the “Part 2” planned or not. From the previews it kind of sounded like they did it in response to all of the responses Part 1 generated. It was the previews that caught my attention. Since I wasn’t going to be able to watch the show when it aired, I recorded it. Saturday while Wayne and I were hanging out to nurse Murph, he was flipping through our recorded programs on the DVR and saw the Oprah … Continue reading

Greatest American Dog: The Loyalty Episode

Because we were away on vacation and Wayne completely unplugged the T.V. (and thus rendered our DVR useless), I missed two weeks of The Greatest American Dog. But since our TV, and therefore DVR, is plugged back in, I finally had a chance to watch this past week’s episode. Galaxy’s Limp Like when Bill had to take Star to the vet because he feared she’d been bit by a snake, I was so thankful for the DVR’s fast forward feature when JD had to take Galaxy to the vet. Not sure what the challenge had been in the previous episode, … Continue reading

Greatest American Dog: Further Criticisms about the Show

One of the reality TV shows I ended up enjoying the most was Kid Nation. I wish the Greatest American Dog had a format more like that. Why I Liked Kid Nation I was not expecting to like the show. A bunch of kids forming their own society? Um, yeah, I couldn’t see how that’d be interesting. So I didn’t watch. But Wayne did. He DVRd the first episode and was raving so much about it curiosity won out. I watched and fell in love with those kids. It was hard not to be impressed by so many of them. … Continue reading

Stay-at-Home Wives: A New Trend?

This time, credit not only for the idea of this blog but also for the title goes to Jade “The Muse” Walker. (At this rate, she’s going to have to get a new nickname. Something catchier. Something that better conveys the abundance of leads she bestows upon me.) This is sort of a continuation of my Yes, I Confess, I’m a Stay-at-Home Wife article. But instead of making more confessions (I’ve got some more coming, actually, but in a separate article), I’m going to discuss the CNN.com article by Sarah Jio that Jade sent me. The one that’s kicking off … Continue reading

The Greatest American Dog: The Elvis Episode

There was a new episode of “Greatest American Dog” last night, but thanks to my volleyball schedule, I’m a bit behind watching my DVR recordings. I just finished watching the episode from the week before. I loved it, because David was able to show that Elvis isn’t, as he calls him, a “Jack Russell terrorist.” WARNING: Spoiler Ahead In case you record the shows too and you’re also behind, this is where you should stop reading. I do reveal who was asked to leave Canine Academy. Clearing the Yard “Elvis is off-leash.” ~-David, Elvis’s Dad-~ Poor Elvis. The cute little … Continue reading

And I Thought Declawing Was Bad?

Once upon a time in our household, there was the question of whether or not to declaw Tabby. So far the “not to declaw” camp (a.k.a. mine) is winning. But once in a while (like lately when Tab’s paying a little too much attention to the carpet on the stairs) Wayne’s camp raises the issue again. However, Tab need not worry about me doing anything to her claws other than trimming them. (Something I haven’t done in a while and why her paying attention to the carpet is posing a problem.) The whole to declaw or not debate sprung to … Continue reading

Loving “The Greatest American Dog!”

Judge me as you may, but I’ll confess: I’m nuts for reality TV. Not all reality TV shows, mind you. Some are even too dumb for me. But I have my faves that I’ve watched faithfully from season one: Survivor, The Amazing Race, The Mole, Ghost Hunters, and The Hills. This summer I have a new one to add to the list: The Greatest American Dog. Because of my problem watching animals on TV or in film, I wasn’t sure how I’d take to the show. I also wasn’t sure I liked the idea very much. One greatest American dog? … Continue reading
