How Do You Feel about Design Styles?

Do you love a particular design style or perhaps more than one? Maybe, instead of being steeped in stringent design you're wondering what all the fuss is about. The latter seems to be a trend, and strict design rules no longer seem to be dictating the look and feel of most homes.

Homeowners are opting for do it yourself design and home improvement, which isn't a new idea, but one that does continue to grow and expand. In fact, it's been more like an explosion and the aftershocks continue to ripple. Homeowners are finding that they too have good taste and many really don't need a high priced designer to make a home look and feel beautiful and inviting.

The popularity of home improvement shows and centers as well as decorating shows and style books continues to fuel the homespun decorating movement. While some people still opt for a designer's touch, many are becoming their own designers. Designer rooms often do provide great inspiration, and knock offs in furnishings and accessories are also popular, but do it yourself designers are enjoying adding their own sense of taste and style to their homes.

While some still want the feel of a showplace and relish having spaces that look like they should grace the pages of design magazines, the majority of homeowners want style that also provides everyday comfort. Homes can be beautiful and livable at the same time, and this kind of balance is what most of us seek.

We all want beautiful homes, but we also want them to be relaxing and welcoming. Many of us also appreciate practicality. With growing children and pets in our homes, we want designs that look great but also withstand the wear and tear of everyday family life. The good news is we can have both and at the same time we can inject our own taste and personality into our designs.
