Turning the Corner in 2013

I’d love a life makeover in 2013. Where do I sign-up for that? Actually, I’d settle for a personal chef, chauffeur and housekeeper, paid for by an anonymous donor. Then again, what busy parent wouldn’t treasure professional help to get through the chaos of everyday life? Unless some miracle takes place between now and the stroke of midnight I will likely be tackling the same chores I do every.single.day. throughout 2013. That’s the cold slap of reality. Fortunately, I’m not letting it get me down.  Rather, I am planning to turn the corner in 2013 and help myself lighten the … Continue reading

A Guest in My Own Home

Does your home act differently when you have company over? Here is how to get it to act nice for its owners. Yesterday, I was doing some regular cleaning in the dining room. I dusted the dining room table and chairs, among other things, and replaced the tablecloth with a fresh, clean one. When I was done, I thought the table could use a little extra touch, so I took a few candles off of a nearby shelf and arranged them artfully in the middle of the table. I stepped back, arranged a bit more, and then I was satisfied … Continue reading

Air Travel and the California Wildfires—What You Need To Know

If you have a flight scheduled to arrive or depart from any airport in Southern California this week you are in line to catch a break. Today, a number of major airlines announced they are waiving fees for passengers looking to reschedule flights in or out of the area’s airports because of the raging wildfires that have scorched thousands of acres, destroyed more than 1300 homes and claimed at least one life. Typically, travelers wanting to change flights are subject to fees that exceed $100 in some cases. But, most major carriers said they would be waiving those fees to … Continue reading

Fall Money Cleanup

So often I hear the term “Spring Cleaning”… but for me, the time to really clean and cleanse your lifestyle is fall. This is especially true of families with children in school and colder climates. Once school sets in, time is more crunched and as winter approaches, you spend more time indoors hibernating. The end of summer as it merges into fall is almost like your last chance to prepare for this natural shift. Somehow we are all programmed to feel a sense of starting fresh in the fall. This often begins as school children and seems to carry through … Continue reading

Let’s Talk About Having a Lotus Birth

If you’ve never heard of Lotus Birth before, you aren’t alone. But you may now come across the idea throughout your pregnancy. Lotus Birth is the practice of leaving the umbilical cord uncut after the third stage of labour so that the baby remains attached to both cord and placenta until they naturally separate from the umbilicus. I learned a lot about Lotus Birth from Sam Pearson, and her article is linked at the bottom. With her permission I would like to quote a few paragraphs Ms. Pearson wrote on her own experiences with Lotus birth, to share why she … Continue reading
