Make Your Closet Work for You

Whoever invented closets was brilliant, a genius! Who doesn't love having lots of great closet space? The only problem is that few of us seem to have enough space, and our closets soon look like they are about to burst at the seams.

You can make any size closet work for you and the following tips will help:

Reduce the number of items in your closet

This is a huge project for many of us, but it really is worth the effort. Go through every item of clothing and get rid of the clothes you don't wear. If you haven't worn a garment in the last year, consider removing it. You will feel a sense of accomplishment, and if you really want to feel good, donate these items to a shelter or a free clothing room. Not only will you have more room in your closet for the good stuff, but you'll also feel great knowing that someone who desperately needs clothing is getting use from your past favorites.

Store similar items of clothing together

Keep seasonal items like coats and jackets in the same area. Keep gloves, hats, and other seasonal accessories nearby. Next, store long items in one section of the closet and keep shorter items in another. Create a section for shirts, tops, and blouses, another for skirts, and one for pants, slacks, and jeans.

Sort clothing within each section by color

This way you can go right to the item you want and your coordinating items will be easily accessible. You will be able to put an outfit together in no time. Organize shoes, boots, belts, purses, and bags. There are all kinds of great organizers, racks, and hanging storage units that you can use to keep shoes paired together and off the floor. Utilize these storage units to keep handbags and belts near matching shoes and other accessories. Keeping your clothing accessible at a glance is a great way to avoid the hassle of trying to put together an outfit each morning.
