Here is the second article in the series that is all about ceiling treatments and options. If you missed the first article, click here: Ideas for Ceilings.

Is there something about your room that just doesn't feel finished? Or maybe you want a quick update that won't break the bank or take up a lot of your time. Why not try one of the following ideas to improve the ceiling in your room.

4. Install layered drywall

If you want to add some architectural detail to an otherwise boring ceiling, consider installing a layered drywall treatment. This is an especially effective look for modern homes that feature open floor plans. Applying a simple border of drywall to the ceiling in a single thickness can help define different rooms of your home, such as separating a dining area from a kitchen or other living space. Using a single layer won't block light or create shadows. The layered drywall can pick up on raised paneling in cabinets or furniture, or echo existing wainscoting.

5. Have a suspended-grid ceiling

A suspended-grid ceiling, or drop ceiling as it is commonly called, is an effective, quick and inexpensive way to help finish off a basement ceiling or other ceiling in which there are exposed pipes, ducts or electrical connections. You can buy an entire kit that comes complete with the grid pieces, mineral-fiber tiles (also called acoustical tiles) and all hardware. A typical 10' x 12' kit will cost you about $100. Consider interspersing the tiles with flat fluorescent fixtures to light the room. Suspended-grid ceilings are easy to install, but you will need at least two people working together to complete the job. One of the benefits of this type of ceiling is that it dampens noise, making it idea for a playroom or recreation room in your home.
