More Summer Decorating the Easy Way

Summer decorating shouldn't be a chore we dread doing. It should be light, and bright, and fun, like other summer activities. In fact, with a few easy ideas, you can add that light, bright, feel to any space and keep the summer fun coming.

You will often hear that you should paint your furniture white or replace heavy or dark pieces with those that are lighter in color and/or scale during the summer. What if you don't feel like painting or moving furniture? One good trick is to top dark pieces with bright table runners (placemats work too) or add a white doily, piece of lace, or a piece of sheer fabric. This is a simple, inexpensive way to lighten up the look.

You'll also hear lots of talk about bringing the outdoors in. Again, you may not feel like rearranging all your furniture or beginning a big project. Try this idea: Hang a large mirror in an area that will reflect your favorite outdoor area, such as a flower garden. This is one of the simpler ways to bring the outdoors in, and your beautiful garden will act as the artwork in your space.

Speaking of artwork, one fast way to make a big difference is by replacing existing artwork with something summery. And, you don't have to spend a fortune on fine art to give your space an update. There are many beautiful options that are reasonably priced. You can make nearly any quality print look good with a decent frame. Another option is to simply paint a piece of wood or a stretched canvas in bright summer colors. Not an artist? No worries. Tape off stripes or other shapes, fill them in, pull away the tape, and move on to the next area. Add a few accents in coordinating colors and your space will have a fresh, new look.

You can do summer decorating with little time and money so you can use your time and money to really enjoy the rest of your summer.
