More Ways with Sheets

King size sheets, in fact all sizes, can be used in many ways to make great treatments for your home.

Sheets also make simple, attractive shower curtains. Snip the ends of the edge banding from the backside and slide over a tension rod. Press if needed or throw in the dryer for a few minutes then hang. Back with an inexpensive shower curtain liner. You can use a king size sheet which you can close over the shower or draw to one side, or you can use two smaller sheets for curtains that open and close in the middle. It may be more challenging to find just the perfect fabric to coordinate with other bedding and bath items, but picking up an extra sheet or three that go with your existing pieces is a terrific option.

Sheets also make dressing a bedroom simple. A child's room is a great example. Pick up a couple extra flat sheets that match the whimsical bedding ensemble you already have and make curtains, accent pillows, or a throw. You can even fake the throw idea by simply folding an extra sheet and laying it across the bottom of the bed to continue the theme.

Aside from valances, you can also make curtains and shades. Follow the same instructions used for valances, only use full lengths of sheet instead of leftover, smaller pieces. Trim to the appropriate length and hem.

Need a slipcover? A dust ruffle? Grab a sheet. Throw a sheet over a piece of furniture inside-out, smooth to fit, and pin or stitch to size. Sew by hand or with the machine, turn right side out, and place on furniture. For a dust ruffle, the simplest method is throwing the sheet over the box spring inside out and stitching the corners. Trim the excess fabric away, turn over, and replace the mattress (hem if needed).
