Murphy's Law

Have you ever had a really long run of bad luck? Like Murphy's Law states, "Anything that can go wrong, probably will." Well, Murphy has apparently decided on an extended visit at our home.
From the trans going out in my minivan, immediately followed by a flat tire and the need for new back brakes on our remaining vehicle, to our daughter injuring her ankle on the trampoline, we've been a little overwhelmed. We have also had many and varied other issues to deal with, from small everyday nuisances to bigger problems like running out of checks while waiting for the order to be filled then having our bank's ATM systems down all weekend, leaving us without cash.
My husband's cell phone decided to quit working, the flusher broke on one of the toilets, and most recently we have had trouble with our computers. First, the video card went out in my new system. Then, when we found that high-speed internet was finally available in our area and excitedly signed up, we didn't realize they would turn it on immediately, despite the fact that we hadn't yet received our new modem. I finally got a high speed connection but I couldn't use it! I didn't even access to my painfully slow dial up for two days.
Okay, there is a point to this rant. Despite the above named items, and more, I have to resist giving in to stress and despair. So, in order to keep from it, I have to stop and count my blessings. It really does help. Even though lots of things are going wrong, things could always be worse, and in fact are worse for others. There is always someone less fortunate than we are.
As I worked -hard- to resist the urge to feel sorry for myself, I realized how truly blessed we are to live in this country, to enjoy freedom, to still be here even though there are people who would prefer that we weren't around. We still have free speech, freedom to worship, and opportunities to better our lives and work through even the most trying times.
Remember, when life comes at you too fast, take a deep breath. Reflect. And, don't forget to count your blessings.
