A Healthy Diet Could Help With ADHD – But is Not a Cure

A recent study found that a way to improve the behavior of kids who have ADHD is to get them to eat a healthier diet. This advice is not designed to be a primary treatment method for ADHD. Could something as simple as a healthy diet be an effective way to lessen the symptoms of ADHD? In the 1970’s, Dr. Benjamin Feingold wrote a book called “Why Your Child is Hyperactive”. Dr. Feingold was a pediatrician and an allergist. The diet he described in his book is now commonly referred to as The Feingold Diet. The basic concept of this … Continue reading

Don’t Let the Pet Peeve Take Over

The problem with little things in a marriage is that they can quickly grow into bigger things. Soon that little pet peeve has become the giant gorilla in the room. By resolving not to let the little things in life bother you, your marriage will be a lot healthier, and the reduced stress will keep you happier too. Let us take a look at a typical pet peeve in a marriage. Jane can’t stand the fact that Jack leaves his clothes all over the floor. She’s asked him nicely to stop doing it, but he never seems to remember. Every … Continue reading

The Sneaky Mama’s Homemade Frozen Pops

It’s about this time of year, when we’ve hit a few 90 degree weather days, that my children start clamoring for frozen popsicles. I’ll admit that it’s easier to just buy them. You can just buy frozen fruit bars, call it a popsicle, and consider yourself a good mother for having bought a nutritious snack. Note: I actually have frozen popsicle molds for each of my children and … Continue reading

Cruises Getting Healthy? When Were They Not?

My husband and I were married on a cruise. It was a fantastic all-inclusive getaway. I remember that the biggest attraction for certain Baby Boomers in our party was the 24-hour food service. If food was being served, they had to be there. It didn’t matter if it was breakfast or a midnight buffet. (If we missed a meal, they felt it was important to tell us everything that we missed at the following meal.) Now cruise lines are trying to make things healthier for their passengers. They’re hoping to lure health-conscious baby boomers (not my parents) and others who … Continue reading

The Color of Your Sheets Can Save You Money

In a previous article about saving on luxury bedding, I talked about how you can get amazing sheets that make you feel indulged. Now, I want to share a secret that I have learned in my years of taking care of a household; the color of your sheets can actually save you money. Don’t believe me? Here is how I do it. The biggest way that I save money on sheets is to buy them in one color: white. White sheets save us money in so many ways. The first way is by being far more long lasting than other … Continue reading

Your Influence Over Your Spouse

Do you feel like you have an influence on your spouse? It’s likely that you do, at least in some areas, but is that influence good or bad? Does your spouse use you or your habits as an excuse to do things he or she shouldn’t? Maybe he or she follows your example and has developed more positive habits. If you’re a smoker and your spouse has quit, does your smoking help your mate find excuses to smoke? It’s not really your “fault” since your husband or wife makes a choice, but there is still a certain level of influence. … Continue reading
