Odds and Ends

Sometimes, I come across things that I find interesting or useful, but there isn't quite enough information to write a full article. So, here are some odds and ends that I hope you'll find helpful:

Disposable Toilet Wand

If you have been wanting to try one of the new disposable toilet wands, give Scotchbrite a try for free. Visit Scotchbrite.com for a rebate plus coupon for future savings. I've tried other brands, but the Scotchbrite version has a unique shape designed to fit under the rim. It's certainly worth trying at this price... free.

Ceiling Fan Cleaning Trick

Take an old pillowcase and slide it over a ceiling fan blade. Gently pull it across the blade "bagging" any dust inside the pillowcase. Shake the case out over the trash and repeat.

Home Decorating Contest

If you always wanted to show off your design skills, check out Better Homes and Gardens decorating contest. The grand prize is $25,000 and you still have plenty of time. You can choose from a variety of projects and your project does not have to be completed until December, 2007.

Add Plants without Planting

If you want to add some greenery or color to your porch or patio quickly for an open house or a party, but you do not have time for planting, simply place a variety of small potted plants inside a large, decorative planter. Fill in the spaces and the tops of the small pots with moss, bark, mulch, or other filler.

Handy Shopping List

Copy your favorite recipes, at least the list of ingredients, onto index cards. Keep these cards in your coupon organizer, the section of your purse where you stash your shopping list, or stick them in your pocket on the way out to the store. This will help you avoid running back to the store for that one item you might otherwise forget. Be sure to add to your list any side dishes, garnishes, or other extra items needed to serve the meal.

Why do things yourself when you can hire a helper? There's a new site: http://www.hireahelper.com where you can hire an amateur to help you with yard work, cleaning, moving and general household labor.
