Our First Snow

by Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger

Today is an exciting day here in Pennsylvania. That is because we are experiencing our very first snow of the season. and not only is it any snow, but it is a gently falling, Christmas type snow that you generally only see in movies and on screen savers.

Nestled here in the woods, the snow is creating a magical show for the little ones and myself. My oldest is still in school, and I can just picture him anxiously tapping his foot, waiting for school to let him out into this winter wonderland.

Another reason that I am so excited by this snow, is that in our old home, it hardly ever snowed a good snow before Christmas. Usually, the streets were bare and gray. But here, I have the benefit of a picture postcard event, all given to us while the sparkle is still on the Christmas tree.

I thought we might have a little more time before the first snow fell. After all, there are still some leaves to organize in the yard. But the snow happily covers them up, turning a yard of chores into the prettiest picture postcard of winter.

So now, while the little ones are finally asleep for their naps, I'll dive head first into our hall closet to pull out mittens, hats, snow bibs and boots. We'll head outside to meet the school bus, and then the four of us will make snow angels and snow tracks, and all good things relating to snow.

When we return to the house to warm up and get back to the normal chores of homework, toy pick up and dinner prep, we may just have to first take a moment to share some hot chocolate and oatmeal raising cookies and gaze out of the window just a bit longer.

Did you have your first snow? How did you celebrate the day?
