Pretty Party Vasesby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 02 Nov 2007 05:43 PM
If you have been putting off discarding some of your outdoor or porch party decorations, then congratulations. That just means that they are available to repurpose into new decorations for the fall and winter holidays. One nice idea is to take apart paper lanterns from a set of summer party lights. We will turn them into pretty vases that are festive and different. Separate the lanterns by color or design. You can choose to use only one color, or mix it up, depending on the look you want and how many items you need. Next insert flower stems into florist vials that you have filled with water. These vials can be purchased at a florist, any may even be given to you free for the asking. Tuck the vials into the tops of the lanterns. The type of flowers you use can vary for your look. Bunches of tightly group carnations look really nice with these lanterns, especially when you choose unusual colors. Carnations are inexpensive, so you can really fill your room with flowers for little expense. For a winter holiday, you could even use poinsettia leaves, holly or other traditional Christmas flowers and greenery. Roses add an elegant touch to the whimsy of the lanterns. Try the traditional red or vary the colors. Use wide festive ribbon to hand the flower-filled lanterns from your stair rail, door or window frame. Or, you can forgo the ribbon and simply stand your new vases on a table for display. Another idea is to turn the vases into centerpieces.
