Quick Harvest Decorating

Do you need some last minute tips for fabulous harvest decorating around your home? Here are some quick ideas that require very little effort or planning.

Sometimes life can be hectic, especially around the holidays. I remember one year when I suddenly found out that I was hosting Thanksgiving for our extended family. I found this out less then two weeks before the big day. Ouch. If this is happening to you this year, you have my sympathy. You also can have these quick ideas to get your home in a festive mood.

For a quick harvest centerpiece, gather up your best antique-looking containers, pots and pans. I have found that cast iron, even when new, makes nice antique-looking pieces. Place the containers in the center of your table and fill them with a collection of dried fruits and flowers, such as oranges and cranberries. Add nuts, colorful leaves and seed heads from your yard, and anything interesting and natural you can find.

Ribbons instantly add glamor to your gathering. dig out your collection of ribbons in fall colors. Tie them to the banister, the backs of chairs and the chandelier. You can also try this trick that I posted back in December of last year, using ribbons to hang pine cones in alternating lengths along a dining room window. Use a metal watering can and fill it with mums or other harvest flowers to decorate a front entry way or porch. You can also fill the watering can with dried flowers or interesting branches, if you like.

If seating is going to be an issue, you can decorate those extra card tables and chairs to help them look elegant instead of thrown together. First, cover the tables with tablecloths that go well with your main table cloth. Chair covers are inexpensive and instantly bring warmth and elegance to any chair, even if it is a borrowed fold-out one.
