Search for a New Bathroom at Lowe’s

Yesterday, Sunday, my family and I spent hours in our local Lowe’s home improvement store searching for a new bathroom vanity for our downstairs powder room. In fact, we have to redo the whole bathroom. Right now, it contains a cheap blue carpet (ew carpet in the bathroom) that the previous owners used to hide the water damage to the sub floor beneath. The current sink itself is not bad, with the exception of years of hard water stains that bleach and a pumice stone have not completely eliminated. However, the sink is just attached to the wall, and the … Continue reading

Matching Kitchen and Bathroom

One recent trend in home renovation and design that I have been seeing lately is the matching of kitchen and bathroom to create a sense of continuity in the home. This idea expands on the modern sense of open space in a home, with wide open areas and a sense of flow throughout the home. In the past, kitchens and bathrooms were treated as separate islands in the home. They were functional spaces that were often isolated from the rest of the home. A bathroom might feature colors, such as bright pink, or a kitchen bright yellow, that you would … Continue reading

Mission Organization – TV Review

Some people enjoy watching TV shows that have million dollar homes. Not me. I drool over Mission Organization on HGTV. Sad, huh? At the beginning of each show, host Gail O’Neill tours a disorganized room in a family home. She then sends in a professional organizer to work with the family. The show has a team of organizers and a few guest organizers. I’ve seen shows on garages, kitchens, bedrooms, playrooms, family rooms, … Continue reading

Time to Clean Out the Medicine Cabinet

It seems as though most of the people I know are dropping like flies to the flu or other respiratory illness right now. Whether it is the dreaded swine flu or the usual seasonal flu, the fact that everyone around us seems to be affected right now makes the whole thing hit home. I know, despite trying to deny it to myself, that at some point my own family may be affected. As much as I would like to sometimes place them in a bubble, there are those things called school and work, not to mention social activities. With this … Continue reading

How Clean is Your House – TV

As I was flipping through the channels last month, I saw something that caught my attention. A woman with a British accent was explaining all the bacteria she’d found in a family’s home. The father looked a little frightened. The mother looked as if she were going to be sick. I stopped flipping, and sat down to watch. And after the show was over, I got up and cleaned house in fear of what nasty bacteria were lurking in our sinks. This half hour show is called “How Clean is Your House” and can be seen on BBC and Lifetime. … Continue reading
