Remember Watching Saturday Morning Cartoons?

When I was a kid, I didn’t sleep in on Saturdays. I couldn’t wait to get up so I could spend the morning watching cartoons. It was the one day each week when there was nothing on for hours but shows for kids. In between shows, there was Schoolhouse Rock. Come on now, I know some of you know the words to those catchy tunes! Do you remember Scooby Doo and those meddling kids or Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Toons? Do you remember any of these? Flintstones Popeye Pink Panther Top Cat Tom and Jerry Super … Continue reading

Old School Scrapping

Ever since she saw The Smurfs in 3D this summer, my young daughter has been begging to view old school cartoons. My brother (bless him) has been busy sending her DVDS of the Snorks, Super Friends (hello Justice League of America!) and Heathcliff. I wanted to create a scrapbook layout documenting my daughter’s new obsession, but I can’t find anything more than sparse clip art featuring most of her new video friends. When I told my mom that I wanted to make an “old school” page design she suggested I draw pictures of the Snorks on cardstock, sand the finished … Continue reading

The Bugs Bunny Road Runner Movie (1979)

I got this movie in the mail today from Netflix, and sat down to watch it with my kids. We all enjoyed it a lot–in fact, we watched it twice. We begin our show with an interview with that most dashing of all movie heros, Bugs Bunny, which takes place in his posh Hollywood mansion. He tells us the secret of his success, which is that movie goers love a good chase. From the dawn of time, men have been chasing animals (to eat) each other (as competition) and girls (because they’re in love). Then women started chasing too, creating … Continue reading

Me and Scooby Doo

A funny thing happened Sunday while I was alone. Tyler was with his father watching the football games and I was sitting in the hotel reading the newspaper and flipping the channels trying to find something half-way interesting to watch on TV. At one point I flipped to Scooby Doo and for a split second I thought about stopping but then I hurried on. When I didn’t find anything, I made the rounds again and when I came to the channel that had Scooby Doo on, once again I was tempted to stop and watch. But somehow I felt that … Continue reading

Your Home: Peace and Quiet

Our homes can be noisy places. The noise level has a lot to do with the amount of activity, but even when your family members aren’t particularly active, there are still many sounds. The TV, the stereo, people talking, children laughing, water running, the furnace or air conditioner blowing, and perhaps the washing machine or dryer going, can make for a lot of noise. These and other noises, or the combination of many, may not even be loud, but all that noise together can take its toll on us. Sometimes, we just need to turn off as many items as … Continue reading

Scooby-Doo, Who Are You?: Fun Facts

Who is Scooby-Doo? You might know he’s the star of a show that originally was called, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, which has since seen other spin offs and transformations. (Such as A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and What’s New, Scooby-Doo?, not to mention the direct-to-video animated movies as well as the motion picture live-action versions.) But did you know that from 1969 until present, the Scooby-Doo brand of cartoons is Saturday morning TV’s “longest running American animated” series? Here are some other fun facts you may or may not know: • The storymen at Hanna and Barbera in charge of creating … Continue reading

Home: Week in Review Nov. 12 – 18

Here’s your weekly rundown of articles, posted in the Home Blog between November 12 and 18. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we’ve had lots of articles filled with tips and ideas for holiday decorating, traditions, organization, and entertaining. We also talked about holiday stress and safety, and we had some sentimental thoughts and lighthearted articles as well. For example, did you know there was such a thing as National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day? I didn’t know, but as usual, Michele found something new and interesting to share. It’s a pretty cool concept, intended to get the fridge ready … Continue reading
