It’s Mud (Puddle) Season

With the arrival of spring comes the arrival of a very popular outdoor attraction for toddlers – mud puddles. Much to the dismay of many parents, toddlers seem to have a knack for finding mud puddles and an uncontrollable desire to splash in very single one that they can find. Parents have many different opinions about whether to permit their little ones to play in the puddles, and my opinion is just that – my own. Dylan loves to play outside and I can see and feel the effect that it has on him. When he is able to spend … Continue reading

Spring Cleaning: Slate

Slate is all the rage with homeowners looking to update their kitchen, master bathrooms or entryways. The natural stone features a fine texture that comes from mixing small silt and clay particles under high heat and pressure. The bonding of these particles makes the material resilient and highly resistant to stains. These features make slate an ideal choice for flooring, especially in high traffic areas. Another reason slate has become a popular choice in flooring is that it looks as good as it is practical. Slate comes in a variety of textures and colors, including black, red, green, gray, and … Continue reading

Do You Have a Spring Baby?

I do, but not intentionally. I got married in the spring, got pregnant in early summer, and gave birth the following spring. The wedding ceremony was planned; the baby was a gift. I wasn’t one of those uber anal women, who mapped out everything, in hopes of having a baby in the spring in order to avoid suffering through her third trimester during the dog days of summer. Nor did I care that my baby was born in the spring, so he or she could make the cut-off for kindergarten. Baby books make a big deal about kids born during … Continue reading

Still, it is nice to look back toward warm sands and wearing shorts even as we will soon be crunching leaves and taking out the sweaters. August 1st Getting Out Grass Stains With summer in full swing, chances are that your family has been playing outdoors quite a bit. And with all of that outdoor play comes the grass stains, especially if you are … Continue reading

Sea Tones for Spring

You may remember a blog I posted a few months ago about creating a room decor that was inspired by the beach. Well, it seems that home decor has finally caught up with me. Sea tones are definitely coming around as a popular decor for spring. You’ll find colors, fabrics and accessories that are all inspired by the sea. Obviously, I appreciate this look. It is calming, relaxing and restorative. The natural elements that are incorporated into the look lend a bit of authenticity. It brings me back to my days living in a Connecticut shoreline town, were sea breezes … Continue reading

Seasonal Decorating: The Backdrop

We have begun discussing strategies for seasonal decorating. We have to start somewhere, right? The best place to begin is with the overall design plan of a space you’d like to redecorate, and one you’d like to be able to freshen up with each season and special occasion. By using basic colors and furnishings to create a neutral backdrop, you can make a space interesting through the use of accessories and art. You’ll be able to change the entire look and feel of a space instantly by altering these items, instead of having to redecorate the entire space. But, don’t … Continue reading

Changing Seasons

Have you ever had a feeling like something in your life was about to change; like a new chapter or season in your life is about to begin? That’s kind of where I’ve been for while now. In the past, prior to knowledge of a move, promotion or placement of a child in our home, I’ve had this feeling too. Maybe it’s just becoming familiar with the first tastes of a new season; like the crispness in the morning as autumn has approached, or the fragrant air of spring. Since I’m not sure exactly what God’s plans are for my … Continue reading

Seasonal Decorating—Getting Your Home Ready For Fall—Part 1

Technically, autumn began a couple of weeks ago, but I don’t think Mother Nature got the memo because I live near the Canadian border and we’ve been experiencing temperatures in the 80s for the past couple of days. Of course, this has not stopped me from transforming my home into an autumn wonderland. Gone are my watermelon colored placemats and sunny yellow dishtowels. I have packed away my cobalt blue flowered tablecloths and stored my lime green pillow shams. Brisk temperatures or not I am ready for autumn. Seasonal transformation is a relatively new concept to me. I grew up … Continue reading
