Will You be Mistaken for Santa this Christmas?

Believe it or not Christmas is 92 days away! That is three months and 2 days to fit into that Christmas dress you have been dying to wear. Will you do it? I know this year I do not want to worry I’ll be mistaken for Mrs. Claus if I decide to wear red. This could be Christmas number 5 that I wanted to wear this one skirt in particular but can’t get my sugar plum bottom into it. I keep telling myself that I have an excuse seeing as how I have a knee injury that requires me to … Continue reading

Dear Santa, May I Please Have Some Patience?

Dear Santa, I know this is a last minute request seeing how it’s Christmas Eve and all. I’m sure the elves already have your sleigh loaded and ready to make tonight’s rounds. But I was wondering if you could possibly spare room for one last thing? I’m not asking for a lot. Just a little Patience to get me through until I can refill my reserves on my own. A smidge stuffed in my stocking should do me. You see, I’ve tried very hard to be patient with my husband this year, but now I’m about all tapped out. First, … Continue reading

Pushing Kids to Santa’s Lap

One of my daughters and I were out this weekend doing a little shopping at our nearby mall. Of course the place was abuzz with bodies and people and plenty of noise and the ching ching of cash registers. Since neither of us are big shoppers and she is less patient in a big crowd than I am, we didn’t last too long. But after feeling sorry for all the sad and sickly-looking puppies in the pet store, we wandered down to the main courtyard where the Santa operation was set-up. As we were watching the line of parents and … Continue reading

The Santa Clause (1994)

Comedian Tim Allen stars in this modern Christmas classic about a man by the name of Scott Calvin who works at a toy factory. He is divorced and has a young son named Charlie, and they are scheduled to spend Christmas Eve together. However, the after-work party keeps Scott from being on time, making Charlie even more sure that Christmas is ruined. Scott can’t even put together a decent meal, and they end up eating at Denny’s. Scott tucks Charlie into bed after reading him the Christmas story, only to be awakened a short time later by a thumping on … Continue reading

How Can I Find Santa?

If you have already visited Santa or already sent your letter to him but later realized there was something you left out, don’t worry. You can still get in touch with him to let him know before Christmas. Sometimes, kids forget to add something to their lists or find something later that they’d really rather have, but then it’s too late to tell Santa about it. Not any more. Talk to Santa Now, you can still reach Santa to make sure he knows what you want. You still have to keep being good, and you can remind him how nice … Continue reading

Seeing Santa

Today was special. It was the date of the annual Christmas party at our bank. They do a nice job and everybody shows up for the celebration. There’s just something about small towns at Christmastime that make you feel right at home. Everybody knows everybody else and it’s like old home week at the bank. There’s hot cider and homemade cookies, fresh fruit, gifts, goodie bags for the kids, and of course, Santa comes to visit. This year Mrs. Clause was also in attendance. The kids get to sit on Santa’s lap and have their picture taken while telling him … Continue reading

The Santa Claus 3: The Escape Clause

I saw the first commercial trailer for this film today and I have to admit, I started grinning like an idiot. The first film in this franchise, The Santa Clause came out in 1994, an unbelievable 12 years ago. In that film, as you may recall, Scott Calvin is a divorced toy executive who is trying to spend Christmas Eve with his son Charlie. The disconnected dad is more than a bit startled when Santa falls off his roof in the middle of the night and even more so when he and Charlie finish delivering the presents – and find … Continue reading

Charlie and the Christmas Kitty

If your children asked for, but didn’t receive the puppy or kitten they placed on their wish list to Santa, this book might work as a consolation present. Maybe. Sure, Charlie and the Christmas Kitty may be a far cry from an adorable tail-wagging, face-licking bundle of fluff that would follow your child around the house and potentially run for help should he fall down a well, but, hey, Santa’s not perfect. Still, you can’t deny the cuteness contained in this festive holiday read, even though the story’s clueless main character doesn’t realize it’s Christmas: “Why is there a … Continue reading

Inexpensive Ways to Countdown to Christmas

My 8-year-old adores her Snoopy countdown to Christmas calendar… and her wooden Advent calendar… and her chocolate-filled Advent calendar… and well, you get the idea.  My kid is obsessed with counting down to December 25th. While I enjoy seeing her excitement as she tears open the doors to her various candy-filled chronicles, Advent calendars don’t come cheap.  Neither do secular versions featuring syndicated cartoon characters. Fortunately, there are ways you can celebrate the coming of Christmas without going broke.  For example: Paper Chains:  Kids can craft a countdown to Christmas chain to help them visualize how many days until Santa’s … Continue reading
